The Board of Trustees of The
Pennsylvania. State University is
the ultimate governing body of
the University, and, as such, it
bears a heavy responsibility to
the vast majority of its students
who desire to secure an education
in order to be more useful mem
bers of our society.
It also has a great responsi
bility to the taxpayers of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
who have generously supported
and have endowed the University
with outstanding educational fac
ilities.
The events of the past several
days at the Main Campus at Uni
versity Park have caused this
Board grave concern and even .
outrage. The University has been
subjected to an assault by lawless-

guished group of private citizens
consisting of the Robert E. Wood
side, formerly Judge of the Su
perior Court of Pennsylvania;
Miss Genevieve Blatt, former
Secretary of Internal Affairs, and
Mr. William T. do leman, Jr.,

panel to investigate charges
against certain students and make
recommendations to the President.
If found .guilty and upon recom
mendation of the panel, the Presi
dent of the University is empow
ered to expel. The panel will hold
its first meeting within a week.
Until appropriate action is re
commended, the students will be
placed on probation but will be
allowed only - to attend their
scheduled classes. The students
charged will not be permitted to
engage in any other University
activity.
To deal with future events, the
Board, feeling as it does, that pre
sent circumstances at The Penn
sylvania State University clearly
threatened the safety -and welfare
of its students and staff, its ljni
perty, and inact, its . very pur
poses, the Board of Trustees has
empowered the President and
certain representatives he - will
designate, with the authority to
graduate,
suspend any' under

The Board has instructed the
President and his staff to be guid
ed by the University Senate in

but, if this is not possible, at the
earliest feasible time thereafter.
Any student summarily su
spended shall be required to re :
main-off campus until he is noti
fied to appear fora hearing. Fail

neering technical curriculum are qualified. Pay will be $2.56 per hour.
Interested students are asked to report to the Office of Student Al-
fairs for further information and applications
St. Benedict Academy's student body will stage a musical, "My
Fair Lady" at the Technical Memorial Auditorium on tomorrow and
Sunday night. Curtain time is 8 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at
St. Benedict Academy. .330 E. 10th St., Erie, Phone: 452-4072.
Mr. Lauffer would like all 19'70-71 soccer candidates to meet
in the R.U.E. Lecture Room next Wednesday, May S at 7 p.m. There
will be a film shown called "U.S.A. Soccer Champs, 1967" and a
meeting afterwards. The meeting should not run over 9:00. This is
mandatory for anyone who wishes to play soccer next fall.
"For the Glory of Old State." an outstanding slide and lecture
presentation concentrating on the history of the main campus. will
be made by Michael Lynch who is coming from University Park
especially for the program. The lecture and slides will be presented
in the Niagara Hall Recreation Room Tuesday, May 12, at 8 p.m.
