Sports B.C. hooters win opener 51 BEHREVD OVER DUBOIS Behrend Campus opened its 1967 soc cer season with an impressive (5-2) vic tory over the Dußois Campus. The team effort displayed by the Cubs enabled them to take an early lead, which they held throughout the game. Freshman Dom Bencivenga, playing in his first game, scored the first two goals; the first on an assist from Dick Stewart, and assisted by Tam Moshe on his second goal. Rick Blose, a second year man / also scored two goals; one unassisted and the other on a free direct kick by Ed Messmer. Rudy McCray, also a freshman, scored a goal when the ball deflected off the Dußois goalie. After the game, Coach Onorato praised the offense and gave special credit to the Cubs' defense. He was exceptionally happy with the showing by the freshman players, and the team effort displayed the sophomores. After the impressive victory over Dußois, the spirited Cubs are getting ready to take on the powerful Buffalo State team, this Saturday. The fresh men from N.Y. should prove to be the most powerful team the Cubs meet in their seven game schedule, so the game should shape up to be the biggest crowd pleaser of the season. Coach Onoroto is planning to make a few adjustments in the defense to cope with Buffalo States powerful offence. He also has a few other tricks up his sleeve to suprise the New Yorkers. Altogether the game promises to be one of the biggest highlites of the Homecoming Weekend. So be a Behrend Booster, and support your team::: Tuesday following the Homecoming game with Buffalo State, Behrend Campus takes on Bradford-Pitt at home. This is the first time that BC has played Bradford. It should prove to be an in teresting game, however, and one that should not be missed. Game time for Saturday's encounter is 2:00 p.m. and for Tuesday's game 3:30. PRE-GAME PREVTE'WS Mike Velmer, Al Dorchester, and Rick Blose (white jerseys) lead the offensive against Dußois. A=TE OF riE WEEK by Al Dorohester This weeks selection for the "Athlete of the Week" was very difficult. The only criteria for picking the "Athlete" was the victioious soccer game against Dußois. The whole team performed superbly to end with a 5-2 score and any member of the team could have been chosen for this honor. After careful consideration we chose Dominic Bencivenga to be "Athlete of the Week". Dominic is the first freshman ever to recieve this title. He is a 1967 graduate of Tech Memorial. The 5 1 9" centerforward spearheaded our offense and gave us an early lead. In the first quarter he put in the first goal of the game and season. This bolstered the Cubs moral to such a height as to keep the Dußois team scoreless in the first half. In the third quarter Dom again put in a goal, making the score 2-0. He made these 2 goals on assists from his 2 able wings, Rich Stewart and Tom Lohse. We now hope that Dom will keep up his fine work this year and return next year to do the same.
