    Commonwealth Representatives at U.S.G.
SELECTION PROTESTRn
In Student Government, the
Commonweitlth Campuses have been very
badly represented down state. Last
.fall the Organization of Student Gov
ernment Associations, composed of re
presentatives from the commonwealth,
tried to remedy this. But O.S.G.A.
needed the support of Penn State's
Undergraduate Student Government.
O.S.G.A. did not receive this support.
Now for geographic and status S.G.A. is protesting the move,
reasons, the plan is changed. Penn and trying to see that the' commonwealt
State's U.S.G. still retains the power, have some say in selecting its represe
but for the first time there will be ative. They are not specifically pro
a representative of the commonwealth. testing the selection of Accary, howevi
they are merely protesting the manner 1
his selection.
We at Behrend are glad to be
represented. One member will make
no sweeping changes, but it helps to
at least have a spokesman.
But even this minor triumph
has been botched. The commonwealth
'representative was not chosen by the
commonwealth campuses. He was chosen
by Penn State's U.S.G. The common
wealth had no voice in this at all,
and they resent it.
Even S.G.A. here at Behrend
had no voice in selecting the man.
And as it turns out, the man is pro
bably a bad choice for the position.
First of all, he is not from
the commonwealth. He is a student
at the main campus. This is all
right because it enables him to
attend meetings down state, but it
still would be better if he were a
commonwealth student.
The man's mame is Accary, former
of Alttona Campus, which is admirable.
He spent one year there, and worked
on the newspaper. But Mr. Accary has
no experience with student government!
How can he expect to be a good repre
sentative for all the campuses?
It is believed that Accary was
selected to appease the Students for
Democratic Society, racial equality
clubs, and other groups of no direct
consequence to the commonwealth.
