Cubs Win PJCAA Title
This was a year of breaking re
cords at Mehrend for its basketball
team. The highest point totals ever
were scored this year; the team had
its best season record along with
quite a few individual records that
will be broken. But besides all
this, the Cubs brought home more
.than another win and record statis
tics On January 28; with the victory
cane the Western Division title of
the Pennsylvania Junior Colleges Ath
letic Association. The day was long
awaited and proved to be very fruit
ful as Coach Roger Sweeting and his
cagers turned their two years of hard
work into the final product.
Following the victory, the jubi
lant players let off steam in the lo
cker room by throwing Coach Sweeting
into the shower, new jacket and all.
He thought it was worth every minute
of it.
The Cubs, now 13-1 on the season,
will host the State Tournament in late
February and are expected to keep win
ning.

Although the Cubs were well below the
usual century mark in scoring, all five
starters finished with double figures.
Paced by Joe Williams and Howie McGregor
with 17 apiece, Ron Hornyak (14), Lorrain
B. Etzel (11) 0 and Tam Taylor (10) rounded
out the scoring.
With McGregor hitting for 10 points
and Taylor throwing in 8, the Cubs grabbed
an 8 point lead and made it stand up
through the second half. Joe Williams pul
led down 16 rebounds for the evening, and
hit for 14 points in a strong second half
after being limited to only 3 in the first.
The other victim of Behrend's weekend
road trip was McKeesport Friday night. The
Cubs were in usual form with a 103-85 route.
Three players hit over 20 points. Joe Wil
liams caged 27 along with his good reboun
ding. The two back court men, Etzel and
Hornyak, always tough at the charity stripe,
hit well from the floor with 12 for 21.
Taylor, a steady performer, had 12.
The Cubs, resting a little easier now
after sewing up the tough title game with
Johnstown, traveled to Astabula January 31.
