PROJECT:
LITERARY MAGAZINE
The delicate child of art is
born in the fertilized womb of
creativity. The miscarriage of
Icarus last year has prompted
two fine obstetricians, Mr. Mil
osh and Mr. Turner to be on hand
for the new arrival. heather
this infant will be able to sur
vive these first few critical
weeks will depend upon its resis
tance to the harsh environment.
It will need essays, poetry, art
work, and fiction to nourish its
demanding body. It will need a
team of workers to watch over
him, care for him and make sure
he matures into a fine young
literary magazine.
ART IXTIIBITED IN LIBRARY
Currently on exhibit in the
Behrend library is a two-man
art show of watercolors, pen
and ink drawings, and several
wash sketches. These are the
combined works of two brothers,
j. Michal i
John and Frank Gratek, both contem
porary American artists and also re
cipients of various art awards.
While Frank Gratek is a self
taught artist having received only
two years of actual art-training,
John Gratek's artistic abilities
have been furthered through several
years of formal art study in Ameri
can universities and abroad. In his
watercolor paintings, John depicts
many scenes which seem to typify the
New England countryside of his back
ground. Frank's line drawings, on
the other hand, deal mainly with the
expressionism of peiple on thought
and action.
CABINET INITIATED
The Behrend Campus has, for the
first time,a Presidential executive
committee. Bob Michaels can be cre
dited as the first S.G.A. president
at Behrend to implement the committee
as the constitution instructs.
Dean Lane says that the com
mittee is a good idea, and will be
useful for co-ordinating the extra
curricular campus activities. He
encouraged that some formal recog
nition be shown to those who form
the committee.
The committee is necessitated by
the growing student body and publicity
problems. This cabinet will co-ordin
ate student activities so that there
will not be too many conflicting plans
made by different cltibs.
It is possible to compare the
progress and problems of Behrend
Clubs with those of other campuses
through the O.S.G.A.
