BASKETBALL near unanimous vote, Dan Chase Arpin were elected co-captains 1965-1966 season. In a and Bob for the The Behrend Cubs held two scrim ages last week. The Coach remained optimistic as to the team's success this season after the practice games. At least ten men seem eaual in ability and Coach Sweating admits that it is almost impossible to chose five starters. Coach Sweating plans to solve this problem by taking advan tage of a strong bench. He has bro ken the ten man down into two units. One unit plays a better defensive game. This unit includes Tom Taylor at center, Can Chase and Ron Hornyak at guard, and Joe Williams and Rick Dylewski at forwards. The other unit containing Bob Arpin and Tom Schultz at guards, Randy Lackowski at center, and Dan Casane and "Barney" Etzel at forwards. This unit is good on the fast break. Tuesday evening the Cubs scrimm aged the Gannon Freshmen. The two unit system seemed to work well as Behrend had the upper hand through out the game. The units were alter nated frequently with the first unit applying an effective defense. The second unit came up with a smooth scoring attack. Although the Gannon team was larger, Behrend con trolled the rebounding. Eleven men scored for Behrend with no individual being more outstanding than the rest. Coach Sweeting stated that he thought the game was a real team effort and that he was pleased with the balance between the scoring and rebounding. The team had a lot of hustle and showed a team spirit that hasn't been seen at Behrend in a long time. Behrend's basketball future looks bright this year. In co—captain Dan Chase's words, "We have a well rounded team." Behrend students can look forward to a season of good basketball. As the Coach stated, "For a change s we have a ball club that the whole student body can be proud of." Remember--the first game is this Saturday at 3:00 P.M. Cone out and see our fine team. At noon on T7ednesday the cheerleadc - 9 held the first pep rally of the basket ball season.. A crowd of enthusiastic students learned the cheers through the instructions of the cheerleaders. The Coach gave a talk introducing the member - of the team and this year's co-captains Dan Chase and Dan Casane. He also rema ked that this year's team is the best Behrend has ever had, Saturday, November 20, was a day that many would like to forget as quickly as possible, especially those Behrend students who were in attendance when Penn State's football team bowed to that of the University of Fittsburgh by a heart-breaking score of 30-27. An old cliohe which comes to mind: "It's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game." But, when a game is lost by three points, there is some call for tears, or at least a few moans. However, we can be proud of our team for the fine fight they put up and their good sportsmanship. PEP RALLY TEARS
