Friday, Saturday "Richman, Poorman, Beggar man, Thief . . ~" an original drama by James T. Miller, instructor of English at the Behrend Campus, will be presented by The Behrend Players, Friday, and Saturday, November 8 and 9, at 8 p.m. in Erie Hall The public is invited to this first production of the season, and the first production of this play in the Erie area. Admission is free, although 10c will be charged the audience to leave BACH, BEETHOYA New record additions to the Behrend library have expanded the opportunity for students to sample musical masterpieces of past and present. Mankind's mo- ments of genius, depression, ex- hileration, sorrow and fear have been captured and preserved in the works of well-known artists Beginning with the classical opus' of Bach, Beethoven, Wagner, and George Gershwin, the library BEHREND CAMPUS—The Pennsylvania State University Covering the play, as reporter and critic for the NITTANY CUB, will be Mr. A. Gordon Wilcox, as sistant professor of English at the Behrend Campus. Included in the cast are: Dave Manning as Poorman; John Les code as the Young Man; Paula Harris as the Young Woman; Carl Holland as the Richman; Greg Glassner as the Game Warden; Diane Aussem as the Game Ward- en's Wife: and Don Austin as Jake, the Beachcomber. BAFFLE BEHREND boasts recordings of Verdi's opera, "Aida," and Puccini's "Madame Butterfly"; orchestral selections by the Boston Pops Orchestra; and vocalists Eileen Ferrell, and Enzio Pinza. Albums entitled "Dave Brubeck a la mode," "Miles Ahead" by Miles Davis and "Blue Holiday" by Edie Haywood satisfy the modern taste for jazz. Any interested student may bor row an album from the library for a three-day period. Parents' Day Sunday The annual Parents' Day program will take place on Sunday, November 10. 1963 at Behrend Campus. This year there will be an open house from 2 p.m. til 4 p.m. in the Otto F. Behrend Science Building. At this time parents will have the opportunity to discuss their son's or daughter's progress with the student's advisor and pro fessors. Parents will have received the student's mid-term grades by this time or, if they have not, the faculty will have them, and will be avail able for consultation between 2 and 4. Although staff members will be on hand from 2 til 4, we strongly urge that parents arrive before 3:30. Refreshments will be served in the lobby between 2 and 4 p.m Both the Botany lab and the Chemistry labs will be open, and Dr. Elizabeth Smith, assistant professor of Zoology, has expressed a marked interest in meeting the parents of all her students. All teachers welcome the chance to meet the parents and students should urge their parents to confer with their professors. CHEERLEADERS CHOSEN Cheerleading tryouts were held Thursday, October 31, in the gym. Six girls were chosen to represent the Behrend Campus at the bas ketball games. They are: Sherril Hofias. Cheryl Lutton, Judy Brow er. Lynn Kostalnick, Sue Kennedy, and Marilyn Raeder. These girls cannot urge the team on completely by themselves, the support of the entire student popu lation is needed. The first basket ball game will be played Saturday, November 23, in Erie Hall. Behr end will play Port Huron, Michi gan. Start up good school spirit at Behrend! OSGA CONFERENCE The weekend of November 2 and 3, Behrend SGA President, Bob Cook, and Vice-President Mike Ropelweski traveled to Hazelton, Pa., to attend the Fall Conference of the OSGA. To explain briefly: The OSGA, Organization of Stu dent Government Association, is, as the name implies, an organiza tion composed of members of all the student governments at the commonwealth campuses and Uni (Continued on Page 2) Saturday, November 9, 1963 Halloween Hootenanny Howling Hit Saturday night, November 1, drew to the bosom of the old stu- dent lounge, a number of hungry, hilarious students ready to delve into the pyramids of pizza and pop provided by the SGA at their first pizza party/hootenanny of the season Although the party was a finan- cial fiasco for the SGA, it goes without saying, that this Behrend tradition was carried on in the true folksy spirit The highlight of the night was provided by the ever-lovin', ever- ready, ever-free "Coachmen" min- us Al Smith, but plus Jack Butler They provided the crowd with folk tunes sung in their own, audible style, and unbeknowst to most two freshmen had surreptiously set up a tape recorder to catch the whole program, plus comments for pos- terity
