Congratulations to Ken Staub
for being elected to the PJCAA All
"West Basketball Team for Penn
sylvania Junior Colleges. He is the
first player from Behrend to be
so recognized.
The intermural basketball pro
gram is well under way. The
games are held on Monday and
Wednseday nights, and there are
two games, one at 6:30 and the
other at 8:00 on each night.
Of the four basketball teams
“Staub’s Stumpers” are in first
place with the record of four wins
and one .loss. There is a tie be
tween “Guriel’s Gangsters” and
“Cook’s Crooks” with both teams
having won three and lost two.
•“Patterson’s Potbellies” are in
fourth place. On March 30 there
will be a play-off between the All
Star Players and the Champions.
The Behrend basketball team
and the high scorers in the bow
ling teams traveled to New Castde
on March 12.
Among the eight various bow
ling teams, team 2 is in first place
with ten wins and two losses.
Teams 1 and 7 are tied for second
place with nine wins and three los
ses. The rest of the teams ranking
in order are as follows: team 5
with eight wins and four losses,
team 8 with six wins and six loses,
team 4 arid 3 both with three wins

and nine loses, and team 6 with
no wins and twelve losses.
Jim Vetrone has the highest
bowling average with 152 points in
eight games. Paul Zock also has
an average of 152 points but in
nine games. Mrs. Goodwin’s ave
rage is also high. She bowled an
average of 129 points in nine
games.
The varsity baseball team held
its first work in the gym on March
4. The first game will be held in
Buffalo on April 23, and it will
be a double-header.
Anyone interested in the golf
team, and not on probation, is re
quested to see Coach Goodwin im-
mediately.
A trip to the beauty shop was a
special occasion in 1922, when
there were about 6,000 beauty
shops. World Book Encyclopedia
reports, that today there are about
140,000 beauty shops employing
some 450,000 beauticians.

metics, as well as pills, before they
became too busy treating the sick,
according to World Book Encyclo
pedia.

dorm is buzzing with the cries of
twenty-three girls.
“Mrs. 8., could you help me with
my knitting?”
“Please open the kitchen, Mrs.
B. We’re hungry!”
“My hem has come loose, Mrs. B
Will you fix it?”
Seamstress, protector, advisor,
teacher, and friend—all these are
included in the job of housemother
which Mrs. Burnett fills exactly.
Not only does our housemother
watch over her girls while they are
in the dorm, but she also takes an

active interest in their outside ac
tivities. Many an evening will find
Mrs. Burnett attending a campus
dance or watching her girls re
hearse for the various activities in
which they participate during the
year.
If' one of the girls should hap
pen to be late coming back from
a week-end trip or a dance, she
will always find her housemother
waiting up to welcome her home,
and lock her safely in.
Throughout the school year Mrs.
Burnett strives to create an atmo
sphere of friendship and make the
dorm a home away from home.
