Pearce pelts pins for practically
perfect play! Tom tossed to topple
a titanic 242. This news bulletin
comes to you through the courtesy
of your friendly, independent,
neighborhood bowling reporter,
me. Toni Pearce topped A 1 Lea
bau's high score by 19 points to
lead the league with a beautiful
242. Just thinly only 58 points
short of a perfect “300” game.
That’s a score that won’t be beat
for a while.
Attention Mrs. Holmstrum. Dot
isn’t doing so hot. She is disgrac
ing the long line of Holmstrum
bowlers and you had better give
her a talking to. Dave “Hands-in
The-Pocket” Alexander is improv
ing and will soon be giving Doro
thy a bit of competition for low
score.
You might know it, Gottlund’s
lying down on the job again. Try
ing to get a worm’s eye view of the
ball, I guess. Glancing over the
scores here, I see another high
game. Jim Mullard .knocked out a
213 to take second place honors
this week. “Short-But-Sweet” Thur
bon is in the news again with an
even 200.
Dody Fisher and Adele Gabin
share the top rung in the female
scoring ladder this week. Each has
a neat 1-33 opposite her name.
“One-Pin” Painter finally got it.
She is second this week on a nice
119.
I hear talk of a banquet for tthe
Behrend League at the close of the
season. The person who suggested
that is a man after my own heart.
Food —ummm-m In ciden t a 11 y,
thanks for the compliment, Harb.
' This is a good week for marks,
mis--semester marks to be exact,
so as somebody said, “I deem it
fitting and proper that we have
the league scores in the column
this week.

THE NITTANY CUB
SPORTS
At a Glance!
By Gibb Brownlie
According to Mr. Ferguson, we
are to have a full sized ski and ta
boggen run. The run is to be lo
cated on the hill behind the swim
i-ig pool and will extend for 300
yards running north and south.
Mr. C. W. Stoddart Jr., exten
sion Phys. Ed. head and Mr. Sher
man P. Fogg, Phys. Ed. prof specia
lizing in tennis and skiing, were
up from State last week to lay the
ground work for the proposedj
■ course. The course is to have af
ski tow, either of a standard 1
make, or of a tract driven nature.
Plans are in the offing to bring
either all or part of the State ski
ing team to Behrend later in the
winter for a ski clinic. State has
an excellent Swiss born jumper on
the team who will show us some
of the finer points. So, until then
get your gelandesprungs polished
up and pray for snow.
The Phys. Ed. classes are getting
more strenuous every day. There
had a bang up basketball game last
week in which Hook Shot Delle
Donne starred. She was ably sup
ported by, if I may use the term,,
Gutterball Ficker and Bomber
Painter. Keep up the good work
girls and if you stay in shape per
haps Mr. Demp’s men will give you
a game.
We seem to have budding Robin
Hoodesses on campus “Friar Tuck”
Painter has been instructing them
on the smaller details of ye olde
bow and arrow shooting. Little
John Demp has his own method for
aiming the arrow. He calls it the
box system. Sounds very square to
me.
There are a number of ping
pc ,ig - players frequenting the
lounge these days. The question is
whether Messers Thurbin and
Demp are beatable on the doubles
court.
Would there be sufficient in
terest to merit the starting of a
round robin tournment? Both sin
gles and doubles would be played.
Mr. Demp reports that his dribble
and dart artists are to play in the
“Y” industrial league. There are
some promising players practicing
every Wednesday night. When the
league starts, support the boys by
attending the games. They will be
played at the Erie “Y” on Tenth
and Peach St-., one block west of
State Street, the main drag.
The boys Phys. Ed. class has had
Intramural wrestling practice
is still in full swing, and we do
mean “swing,” as sessions are be
ing held every Saturday morning
from nine thirty to eleven forty
five in the Lawrence Park High
School gymnasium.
Coach Marvin Demp has been
sending his charges through a reg
ular training procedure, and par
ticipants receive instruction which
will stand them in good stead for
long periods of time in later years.
“We hope, also, to have an in
tramural tournament before long,”
stated Mr. Demp today. “It will be
held in such a way that a champion
can be crowned for each of the fol
lowing weight classes if possible:
121 lbs., 128 lbs., 135 lbs., 145 lbs.,
155 lbs., 165 lbs., 175 lbs., and
heavy weight.
Close to 20 grapplers have been
turning out steadily for their grunt
and groan sessions, and lots of
enthusiasm has been prevalent.
Campus Changing
Face Rapidly
Recently we have been noticing
many changes taking place on the
surrounding campus. On question
ing Mr. Demp about this he stated
that the field you see when ap
proaching the main entrance con
tains five acres which will make a
good soft-ball field or possibly it
might later be converted to . a
base-ball diamond.
Last week one could see Mr
Demp 'along with Mr. Bliley and
Mr. Gallagher trying to cut down
the high weeds. Also .with the add
ed help of Monday’s gym class the
field was cleared by burning away
most of the high weeds which re
sulted in the Wesleyville F.ire De
partment rushing to the scene ex
pecting great action. Fortunately
the class had the situation well in
hand. Mr. Demp stated that he
smelled like a “smoked fish” for
quite a few charley horses, and
lame muscles as a result of the ac
tive tag football games they have
been playing. 'George Hamilton has
had the worst of it so far. He
always manages to get the same
eye bruised.
If you have any data for the col
umn please turn it into the Cub of
fice the Wednesday preceeding
the publication Tuesday.

Top Behrend KegSer
AI Liebau makes news as he
cracks the maples for the
first two hundred game in the
Behrend league on Berry’s
Central Alleys. AI, bowling
for the steadily climbing
Eagles, spilled the pins for a
swell 223 pins to be exact. He
also sports the top man’s
average of 162.
two days afterwards.
Also being put into shape rap
idly is the proposed ski-run. Men
from the main campus and men
from this city have been out view
ing the site and offering different
suggestions and advice. Mr Demp
hopes that a system will be able to
be worked out that would permit
use of skis through the school or
else be purchased through it. All
these are tentative plans,'but after
all at this time last year this school
was only a tentative plan.
There is talk that the basketball
court might be changed so that
the tennis court might be put back
into The basketball court will
probably be moved to a suitable
place.
With the coming of Spring Mr.
Demp hopes that he will be able
to hold track down on the lower
field. There will probably be jump
ing pits and places for running the
dash and hurdles. The main thing
that is holding action back now is
the fact that the field has to be
plowed and then probably scrap
ed in preparation for refitting.
Well, this is the outlook as it
stands now with all this planned
to take place or be ready before
next Spring. Let’s give Mr. Demp
our added support.
