orts Two Nittany Lions Honored by NEAC Penn State Harrisburg's Kenton Alston (Steelton, PA/ Steelton-Highspire) and Steve Jones (Harrisburg, PA/ Harrisburg) were selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball All-Conference recipients for the 2009-10 season. Alston, a sophomore forward, was selected as a first team all-conference player for leading the Nittany Lions in points (524), points per game (20.2), rebounds (233), rebounds per game (9.0), block shots (66) and block shots per game (2.54). In the conference, Alston was second in scoring, sixth in rebounding, 11th in field goal percentage (.478), seventh in steals per game (1.88) and third in block shots. In just his sophomore year, Alston is Penn State Harrisburg's second all-time leading scorer (930), first all time in rebounding (449) and first all-time in block shots (139). Dixon Recognized by NEAC Penn State Harrisburg's Dorothea Dixon (Middletown, PA/Middletown) was selected as a North Eastern Athletic Conference third team all-conference performer for her outstanding feats in the 2009-10 season. Dixon, a sophomore guard, led the Lady Lions in field goal percentage, assists (68), assists per game (2.61), steals (83) and steals per game (3.19) finishing second in points (279) and points per game (10.7). In the conference, Dixon placed 22nd in scoring, 12th in assists, and fourth in steals. Dixon best performance came against Wilson College December 9th in which she accumulated 14 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals and five assists. Among the conference, he finished third in scoring, 13th in rebounding, 13th in field goal percentage (.458), seventh in assists, ninth in free throw percentage (.715), first in steals and ninth in assist to turnover ratio. This season Jones would have ranked first in the nation in steals per game as well as tied for the top performance in a single game with 10 steals. Photos courtesy of Penn State Harrisburg Intercollegiate Athletics Lady Lions Lose Home A shaky three innings on defense gives the Penn State Harrisburg women's softball team two loses Wednesday, March 17th against the Crusaders of Alvernia College, 13- 3 and 8-1. The Lady Lions came out flat allowing six runs on three hits in the first inning of their home opener with Alvernia scoring another 2 runs off three hits in the second inning to put the blue and white in an early 8-0 hole in the first game. Penn State Harrisburg's offense would pick up in the bottom half of the 4th inning scoring three runs on 2 hits and threatened again in the sth inning before a momentum changing double play would end the Lady Lions chances of scoring. After the first two innings, senior pitcher, Erika Sorenson (York, PA/Red Land), held the Crusaders to one hit, striking out six batters before Alvernia's bats would reawake in the top part of the 7th inning scoring 5 runs on 4 hits to ensure their 13-3 victory in game one. At the plate, Sorenson would finish 3-for-4 while freshman centerfielder, Jordyn Cooper (Pittsfield, MA/Wahconah) went 1-for-3 with an RBI. In game two, Michelle Jensen would shut down the Lady Lions' offense only allowing two hits and no earned runs while striking out four batters. It would be the'4th inning dooming the blue and white allowing six runs on five hits to put the Crusaders up 7-0 going into the bottom half of the inning. The Lady Lions would make a charge in the bottom of the sth scoring one run on two hits but the combination of Jensen and Kitchen on the mound would guarantee the 8-1 win in the second game.
