cants Lady Lions blow past Wilson College By Seth Goodyear Staff Writer SMGS27B@PSU.EDU In an incredible show of offense, the Lady Lions won their seventh straight game over Wilson College on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The Lady Lions dominated Wilson College in their final regular season home game. The Lions scored early and often in the first half to put the game out of reach. The Lady Lions did not just score but they played excellent defense preventing Wilson from taking any shots in the entire game. Senior Allison Collins got the scoring started with an unassisted goal in the eighth minute of the game. This was the first of many highlight goals in the game for Collins. From the tenth minute to the fourteenth minute of the first half the Lady Lions put on a show scoring five times. Collins netted her second goal of the first half in the tenth Lady Lions roll By Seth Goodyear Staff Writer SMGS27B@PSU.EDU The Penn State Harrisburg Lady Lions soccer team continued their roll through the NEAC when they defeated Christendom College eight to zero on Tuesday October 13. The Lady Lions scored in bunches allowing them to record another win. The team played strong defense, and made smart clean passes that allowed them to control the game. The game started off slow with both teams failing on opportunities to score quick goals. In the thirty-fifth minute THE CAPITAL TIMES minute mark on a great pass from sophomore Corinne Mazzotta. The Lady Lions scored twice in the eleventh minute. Sophomore Valerie Calvano scored the first goal on assist from senior Amanda Basile. Thirty-three seconds later Sophomore Jessi Manion scored her first goal of the game on an assist from freshman Lindsay McNeal. A minute later McNeal scored a goal of her own, thanks to a pass from Collins, giving the Lady Lions a five-goal lead. Collins ended the scoring spree by scoring her third goal. The goal was scored off two great passes from McNeal and Freshman Jordyn Cooper. The Lady Lions scored one more goal in the first half. Sophomore Allie Rank struck in the twenty-sixth minute of the half. Basile picked up her second assist of the first half and gave the Lady Lions a seven-goal lead heading into half time. The Lady Lions continued their attack in the first few through Christendom College of the first half, the Lady Lions started to heat up when Adrienne Stine drew a penalty and scored on the penalty kick. The Lady Lions struck again when Corinne Mazzotta scored on a pass from Megan Frailey in the fortieth minute to put the Lady Lions up two goals. Two minutes later Frailey found Lindsay McNeal for McNeal’s first goal of the game. This gave the Lady Lions a three-goal lead heading into halftime. The Lady Lions exploded in the second half, scoring early and often. McNeal picked up her second goal of the game. She was assisted by Lindsey Stauffer to stretch the lead to four. Jessi Manion struck in the forty-ninth minute of the game October 21.2009 minutes of the second half. Senior Angela Gilmore scored in the fifty-first minute on an assist from Manion. Sophomore Lacey Eitl scored the goal for the Lady Lions in the fifty-third minute giving the Lady Lions a nine goal advantage. With the game under control, the Lions controlled the ball for the rest of the game, making good passes and frustrating Wilson. The Lady Lions played an almost perfect game. They out-shot Wilson 23 to zero, and they had five comer kicks while Wilson had none. The Lady Lions also showed great discipline not committing any penalties in the game. The Lady Lions played an excellent team game, having ten girls recorded at least one point and four girls recorded at least three points. The Lady Lions will now go on the road for their last regular season games. The Lady Lions hope to host a NEAC playoff game later this month. Allison Collins drew the Lady Lions’ second penalty kick of the game in the seventy-second minute and capitalized on the opportunity. Finally, in the eighty-seventh minute Jessi Manion scored the eighth and final goal for the Lady Lions. The Lady Lions took 35 shots as a team and held Christendom to only three.
