Press Release
MARTY SANTALUCCIA
MFSSO7S@PSU.EDU
For the past semester I, Marty
Santalucia, have served as the Vice
President of Penn State Harrisburg's
Student Government Association.
In this last year the SGA has taken
action to overcome the neglect of
past administrations who turned
your government into an introverted
and ineffective organization.
In the last several months we have
vocalized the student dissatisfaction
with professors who require us to
buy exorbitantly priced text books
when their older, less expensive
counter parts would educate us
just as well. We have stood up
and fought to maintain what little
universally free time we have as
schedules slowly encroach on our
common hours. And finally, we have
taken the very first steps in breaking
down the walls between clubs to
form not sixty individual student
groups but one proud campus.
These strides toward a student
centered student government must
be continued through this upcoming
year if we are going to be successful
in building a strong campus
community which
incorporates the diversity of
backgrounds, experiences, and
ideas we provide. Because of
these challenges, and my desire to
see Penn State Harrisburg come
together as a unified community I
have decided to run for President
of the Student Government
Association.
On the mind of every student is
the constant cost of going to school.
As a student body, we can work
with the campus to alleviate some
of this burden by chipping away at
the costs of going to college other
than tuition itself. This semester saw
the passing of a resolution which
asked the campus to take action on
the assignment of new textbooks.
Unfortunately, that is all there is
right now a recommendation.
Without the follow through of a
President who not only pushed
for, but authored that student
legislation, it will remain just that
a recommendation. Exploring
other routes to lower costs is also
very important and would be a
central goal of the Santalucia

Since 2002, singer/songwriter Andrew Shiraki has been performing as ames
solo artist under the name Koji On The Roof. However, within the last year
he has been joined by a full band in his outings. In November, the band
released the Monsters CD EP, and since then has been writing/recording
music and touring with singer Andrew (Koji) Shiraki on acoustic guitar, Chris
Sigda on lead guitar, Adam Barr on bass, Al Baldasarre on keyboards, and
Brian Eslinger on drums. They have plans to come out with several more
projects in 2008, including a split 10-inch vinyl record with Raise Up Roof
Beams at the end of May. They will be touring internationally in support of
these forthcoming releases. Koji continues to promote community and the arts
through his newly formed company, Colormake, and many promising things
are sure to come out of all these people and all these experiences.
Administration
Our campus has a unique history
of, until very recently, only
educating juniors, seniors, and
graduates. It is because of this
history that we now face the very
unique situation of incorporating
our own culture into an evolving
college community and a much
more traditional environment. My
goal is to help build on this campus
the kind of University pride that
Penn State is famous for. This goal,
however, is only achievable through
communication between our
campus' most valuable resources,
our clubs.
During my term as Vice President
I have taken the time to sit down
and finally organize the Inter-Club
Council to a point which creates a
viable means of communications
between clubs
Next year will be a crucial time for
the ICC. If the organization is not
maintained and usage of the group is
not encouraged we will continue to
see many isolated groups existing in
a fractured campus instead of many
students running one community. As
President, I would be able to assist
the new Vice President in fulfilling
their duties and continuing the goals
of the current administration.
While I have been in office, the
SGA has also passed a resolution
calling for the maintenance of
disappearing common hours.
My administration would not only
focus on maintaining the existing
times during which clubs can meet
but push for an expansion of these
common hours to accommodate
students who wish to participate in
multiple clubs.
By electing me, Marty Santalucia,
to be your next SGA President you
are electing a bridge for the gap
between the student government
and the student body through tough,
clear, student centered approaches
to the costs of college outside of
tuition,
utilization of a growing campus
population to build a strong campus
community, and the expansion
of our clubs and their ability to
communicate with each other. I am
focused on, and
dedicated to providing Penn State
Harrisburg a student centered
student government.

ANTONIOS AVRAMIDIS
AWASO 1 B@PSU.EDU
I would invite you to take a look
around Penn State Harrisburg. What
has changed for you in the past
year? How much of that change
is positive? I, Antonios Avramidis
am running to represent you, the
student body, as your next SGA
president. For too long, the SGA
has been plagued with incestual
relations within itself and other
clubs, the position of the presidency
being demeaned and degraded. The
point of no return for the legitimacy
of the presidency is at hand, but it
can be saved, and I, Antonios can
do it. You deserve more than what
you have been given, you deserve
change, and most importantly
you deserve me, Antonios as your
student body leader. Unlike the
administrations that have besmirched
the name of the SGA, my door will
always be open to you. Any issue
you have, any gripe, any suggestion,
I, Antonios will listen.
With me at the helm, the SGA
will not be a reactionary force, but
a proactive one. Personal agendas
disguised as being beneficial to
the student body will be a thing of
the past. Legitimacy will resume.
Granted, there were policies that
some good people of the SGA
attempted to pass, but these held no
water with the administration. The
little done by the executive branch
was further reduced. There was a
time that SGA was a great source
of events and fun to be held around
campus, and I, Antonios seek to
bring those days back. While many
candidates run on the premise of
change, they never follow through
with their promises, and resort
back to exploiting friendships and
personal agendas.
As someone who has been in
leadership positions throughout
their life, I know the pressures and
devices used to manipulate leaders,
and I, Antonios, will not let these
have any bearing on my duties as
your SGA president. It is my desire
that the Capital Times will no longer
run stories regarding impeachment
and scandal. The good people of the
paper have been burdened with this
over the past year, and this will end
if I, Antonios am chosen to represent

On Tuesday, February 26, students were able to meet with Chancellor Madlyn Hones. Sponsored by the Student Government Association and staffed by the
Lion ambassadors, students were invited to eat and chat with Hanes. "I think it is a wonderful opportunity for me to meet people who are not here during the
day. A lot of students pass on very good ideas." said Hanes. Pictured in this photo are members of the SGA, (L-R), Kristin Gillead, Kenneth Chan, Dustin Hol
ler, Maurice Blackmon, Chancllor Madlyn Hanes, Nathaniel Hezekiah, Sahar Safaee and Marty Santaluccia.
My opponents may seek to bring
opposition to me, because I want to
end the spoils system that has run
rampant with your SGA, but their
opposition is that of desperation,
seeking to retain the power they
posses as the demagogues of our
student body.
I, Antonios have extensive
experience being a leader throughout
my academic career. In my career
as a high school student, I was
an organizer of a Model UN run
for over six hundred people, and
maintained my position until my
graduation. While I served my high
school under the New Jersey teacher
of the year, I was also invited to
attend the Global Youth Leadership
confeience in Washington DC and at
the United Nations in NYC.
While surrounded by young
leaders from around the world, I
was selected to be the president
of this astute group of people in
representing the world's economic
situation on one of the grandest
stages in the world, the United
Nations. I was also chosen to lead
the representation of the state of
Israel in this exercise, and fulfilled
my promises and duties faithfully.
My affinity towards leadership is
something that your SGA is in dire
need of. While our senate is filled
with brilliant and capable people,
and our judiciary is under new,
strong leadership, the position of
president is the only thing holding us
back, and this will come to an end if
you elect me, Antonios, as your SGA
President.
I, Antonios believe that Penn
State Harrisburg is facing some
large challenges, and with those
challenges come great opportunities.
If I, Antonios am elected as your
SGA president, I can assure you that
those challenges will be addressed,
and those opportunities seized.
I, Antonios, leave you with the
following thought. Are you honestly
better off with your SGA than you
were one year ago? The answer
should be clear.
Mistake my fervor not for malice,
for I, Antonios, seek to restore and
progress the greatness that Penn
State Harrisburg once had, and thus,
if elected as your SGA president, I
will take office with malice towards
none, and charity towards all.
