The Coliseum: great food, great games, great price By MATTHEW McCOMAS Staff Reporter MDM337OPSU.EDU Rome's Coliseum was never this much fun. Be sure to check out the newly added Coliseum if you are traveling toward Mechanicsburg. This "Entertainment Megaplex" is suited for all ages, from young children to aging adults. The Coliseum offers an arcade, bowling alleys, tremendous food and televisions all for a relatively fair price. The food and drinks are given at a low cost and the entertainment is priced at an average rate. When you first walk through the door, you will have choices. Immediately to your right will be a nice, sit-down restaurant. Here, you and your guests, whether family or friends, can enjoy freshly prepared food. This is not the only place in the complex you can enjoy a meal, but we'll get to that later. Upstairs is the arcade section. This would mostly be relevant to younger children, but even teenagers and beyond can enjoy this atmosphere There are several styles of arcade games including your traditional joystick arcade games like the ever so popular Tekken fighting game. Air hockey can also be played here. Engage in one-on-one competition with your friends and ensure a champion while having a fun time Another type of game is what I like to call the `.`win something" game. These are your typical games where prizes are located within the machine and you have to either line something up or grab a toy of your choice. There are actually several games similar to that on the top floor. Finally, there are your interactive games. These generally include dance-dance revolution type games or the virtual Renegade film director Paul BY DUSTY SIPES Columnist DWSSO67@PSU.EDU Just when it seemed that cinema was dead, Paul Thomas Anderson returns after a long departure to breathe some life into its lungs; or at least I hope he will. Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the true renegade film directors of my generation. Along with Quentin Tarantino, Spike Jonze, Kevin Smith and Larry Clark, Anderson remains undisputed in regard to his contributions of 1990 s cinema. Despite the use of micro-thin budgets on earlier films, the movies they made managed to gather massive critical and commercial success and at the same time, showed anyone could make a film if they really wanted to. Anderson's directorial debut came in the form of "Hard Eight". Despite a cast featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Samuel Jackson and John C. Reilly, it remained unnoticed with the exception of excellent critical reviews. It was Anderson's follow-up film "Boogie Nights" that made him an overnight cult figure. Directed when he was 27, "Boogie Nights" was an extremely well written social document about the porn industry. Those will come in and continued through the 1980 s, covering the transition from film to video, and actors to amateurs. It was with this film that P.T. began using Robert Altman influenced techniques within his writing and directing. Like any typical Altman film, it contained a large ensemble cast, with each character as memorable as the next Mark Wahlberg portrayed Eddie Adams, better known as Dirk Diggler, throughout his voyage from a dishwasher, to porn sensation, to his limelight downfall and to his resurrection. The film also featured Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, Don Cheadle among others. The film was nominated for three Oscars including Best Supporting Actor (Reynolds), Best Supporting Actress (Julianne Moore) and a nod for Anderson himself in the Best Original Screenplay category. Regardless of the extremely controversial subject matter, the film was a summer success, becoming one of When: Monday & Tuesday 6pm-Bpm Where: Fischer Auditorium handy on game days for the diehard fans. Behind the bowling alley is another small, open room. This room contains multiple pool tables, a nice idea if you want to kick back and relax while still watching your favorite team. As I mentioned before, you can have food brought to you. While downstairs, you can either order from the menu or you can help yourself to the pizza and wings buffet The buffet is a convenient and cheap way to settle your stomach There are other more fancy items for purchase, but snack foods are available as well. After "Boogie Nights," Anderson took some time off' to write his crowd, assuming you have designated drivers or the number for a cab, you can take advantage of the Coliseum's terrific specials They have 24 beers on tap, which are available for the $2 pint specials. It's definitely a great deal and the variety makes sure there is something for everyone. If you're feeling adventurous, you can go up one more size and only pay $1 more. I have been there before and will definitely go back at some point when my schedule allows it. I personally recommend getting a cheeseburger with lettuce, mushrooms, mayonnaise and mustard. A seemingly strange combination, I know. That is again pulling together a large ensemble cast (many of whom were from "Boogie Nights"), Anderson painted a beautifully disturbing story about cancer, regret, longing and redemption. The biblical rain of frogs during the movie's climax is one of the memorable scenes in modern cinema Feeling exhausted after the film's production, Anderson went into recluse. After a four-year hiatus, he returned in 2002 with "Punch-Drunk Love" starring Adam Sandler and Emily Watson. It tells the story of novelty warehouse owner Barry Egan (Sandler), who finds a harmonium and then a woman. We are only shown -George THE CAPITAL TIMES exactly what I thought when I first got it, but it was surprisingly delicious. The waitresses are kind so don't be afraid to ask them for something special if need be. As far as drinks go, being 23, I prefer to pay $3 for a nice, cold, refreshing, tall glass of beer. I'll usually go with something that is not typically on special everywhere else such as Magic Hat Number 9 or Blue Moon. They do carry the traditional specials of Bud Light, Coors Light, Miller Lite and Yuengling Lager as well, but I like to mix it up when possible. On your way out don't forget to stop at Maggie Moo's directly connected to the Coliseum. A great way to top your night is with some refreshing ice cream Do be sure and stop by the Coliseum sometime. I promise you will not be disappointed. The good thing is that this isn't just a weekend spot. You can go during the week and have as much fun as you would on a Friday or Saturday. Remember to round up your buds or ask for some family time as extra players are about the only thing that isn't included in the Coliseum. Until next time, please feel free to e-mail me any "hot spots" you think people may not have heard of, but would enjoy checking out sometime. snippets of the problems in Barry's life and the extent he will go to not let go of its only redeeming element, Lena Leonard (Watson). This is actually based on the real person David Philips. "There Will Be Blood" has been in the works for a period of time. The film is a different direction for P.T., as it is the first film he adapted the screenplay for. Anderson has claimed in interviews that he had no intention of completing an adaptation of the book; it just turned out that way. "There Will Be Blood" is based on Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel "Oil!" The film stars Daniel Day Lewis. The film is, as the studio puts it: "A story about family, greed, religion and oil, centered around a turn-of-the-century Texas prospector in the early days of the business." The film is currently slated for limited release on Dec. 26 in select October 29, 2007 "Bye-bye world, only our hopes to hold on. Boy, you're never gonna' see, nothing's ever come of me. Raise your hands high! Young brothers and sisters, there's a world's worth of work and a need for you. Oh, changes come in through these doors, now closing. There's no world for tomorrow if we wait for today." Do these lyrics sound intriguing? Then you may have an interest for the newly released album, Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow by Coheed & Cambria. However, Coheed & Cambria is not simply a band with amazingly original lyrics. They are also a band that has one of the most interesting stories surrounding their albums. The group Coheed & Cambria released their first story-lined album, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, in 2002. This album kicked off the entertaining tale of the "Amory Wars" behind the group's records. The story goes as follows: Coheed and Cambria are the two main characters. They are a married couple with quite interesting views on their children... They think that they have to kill them! Oh, but have no worries. It is for a good cause. Coheed & Cambria think that they need to kill their children to save the world from an awful virus that is embedded in their genes that may have the potential to destroy humanity. Throughout the story various characters appear in an effort to kill the children and steal their virus to use for evil purposes. It is truly an entertaining tale to follow throughout all of the albums Their most recently released album, Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow is no disappointment. The listener is eased into the album with the first track, The Reaping. It begins with a mellow instrumental and then enters in to well thought out lyrics. Though if you do not pay close attention you may miss the transition into the second track because it is simply that smooth You cannot miss the transition to the third track however. This song is one that could be in a video game, without a doubt. The lyrics are phenomenal however the instrumental definitely distracted me and had me thinking about some kind of martial arts game (we will blame late night ADD for that one.) The lyrics, "the next chords struck are fault and failure. And we both know the finger points on cue. There's blame for two," are from the fourth track of the album, Feathers. This song has an upbeat feel and is pretty good except for the far too repetitive ending. The album slows down when you get the sixth track. This song has a mellow instrumental but some of the most meaningful lyrics. The vocals are different than the other tracks (same vocalist, but the voice is used differently.) The lyrics are also more of tale on this track. It is an easy song to get wrapped up in. The next few tracks go by quickly. But you cannot miss the eleventh track, The End Complete: The End Complete 111. This track is filled with smooth flowing lyrics, great vocals, and a life lesson wrapped up in the lyrics. The song is spun around the idea that we should all learn from our pasts because it is not too late to change. The album concludes with the fourteenth track, The End Complete V: On The Brink. The lyrics are original, inspirational, and truly phenomenal. The instrumental is unique and varies throughout the entire song. The starts of mellow and delivers it messages and ends with a more heavy metal feel; fabulous ending to a great album. I give this album 4 'A stars. It is by far one of the best rock albums to come out this year. The lyrics are like none other, the instrumentals are phenomenal, and the vocals could
