For instance, what are open container warnings, or what does a moving violation mean? Chief Kevin Stoehr provided some insight into some of these questions. First, the open container issue is actually a local township ordinance—not a University policy. The campus police enforce this ordinance for the township. Second, when you come across "moving violation" in a police report it simply means a traffic violation, such as speeding or running a stop sign. Contrary to popular belief, these citations will add "points" on your driving record. Stoehr also provided information on a police report in the previous issue that involved the theft of a gun. Students are not allowed to have weapons on campus. The owner of the gun was a visitor to the campus and the gun has not been recovered. As far as theft is concerned, that was an extreme case—most on-campus theft is minor. Stoehr reminds students not to be careless and guard their belongings.
