Schiavoni described the cafeteria work ers to "have a new gleam in their eye, because they are out of that hole in the wall down- stairs:' Schiavoni's desk is strewn from one side to the other with menus. He is constantly refer ring to these in order to make variety the spice in students' mealtimes. "I want to try to push the student body toward different tastes than what they are used to," Schiavoni said. Because of the greater kitchen space available and the stage area in the cafeteria, the Food Services and Student Activities offices will be collaborating to put on international cele bration days, such as a Greek Fest and Mardi Gras. "There is so much more to choose from now, even though I eat hamburgers the most," Dan Berger said, a returning stu dent. Some new students to Penn State Harrisburg might not understand the improvements and they think there are not enough choices. "It seems like only one menu item changes each day, I'd like to see more variety than that," said Branda Kemmerling, who just started her first semester here in Harrisburg. Students who live in the apartments can buy frozen dinners to keep for later. Schiavoni encourages all students and fac ulty to be a part of the Diner's club. Users can add the Diner's club option to their stu dent ID cards with a $25 deposit, which can be used immediately for purchases. With every swipe, users save 10 percent and using the cards moves the lines faster dur ing busy lunchtimes. According to Schiavoni; there is no financial benefit for Food Services when students sign up for the service. The customers arc the ones saving money For the last two years, Penn State Harrisburg has been proudly serving Seattle's Best coffee. Now the variations in coffee are endless with the addition of Biscotti's, the new coffee cafe, appropriate ly named since every day 12 different vari eties of biscotti are made on premise. Frozen 'coffee drinks will soon be added to the menu. Plans are now being made to install two big screen television sets and a sound sys tem that will play background music throughout the entire area. A banana bar is being added that will allow for groups of students to congregate and do projects with out having to pull tables together. Christmas break will allow for other reno vations that can only be completed when there are no people using the space. The cafeteria is missing one very crucial element. It needs a name and a logo. Menu boards cannot be put up until the cafeteria has a name and some kind of iconic pres ence. Look for a suggestion box that will be put out soon to take suggestions you might have on any matter concerning the cafeteria.
