I would like to thank everyone for being so patient with the transitions that the Capital Times has gone through under my leadership. I know it’s been rough, but next semester will be better. The Capital Times THON T-shirt sale started today (Monday, Dec. 16) at 9 a.m. and will run until 6 p.m. The same goes for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Show your support for kids with cancer. Think of it this way: you could throw $lO into a THON donation can or you can spend $l5 to get a long sleeve THON inspired t-shirt (available Tuesday, preorders accepted), or you can get a PSH hat, Capital Times T shirt, School of Humanities polo, or WPSH Radio Club T-shirt. The Cap Times has already donated $1,053 and has raised close to $3OO in pledges. We hope to raise more with this sale. Please show your support for the kids. Lets see, what else. Oh yes, as Dan Storm wrote in his opinion piece on page 4. It’s unfortunate the way that Penn State Harrisburg handles inclement weather condi tions. I for one felt the brunt of that ice storm on Dec. 11, when I fell on the ice on my way to work. It wasn’t too much fun, I’ll tell you that. When weather is bad like that, it is all well and good that they had a 2-hour delay for students, but employees had to report as usual. That’s a hazard. School should have been delayed or closed for all that weren’t needed. The same for Thursday Dec. 5. Morning classes should have been canceled before the evening classes, that way roads would be clear before stu dents venture out. That’s just my opinion. With the semester ending there are several open positions that will be available. We will be losing some much needed staff due to class loads, student teaching, intern ships, and graduation. Positions that will need to be filled are: Assistant news editor, departments editor, photo editor, calendar coordinator, writers and photographers, and Speak Out coordinator. We will also be looking for people interested in taking over many of the positions that will be open in Fall 2003 so they can begin training next semester. All are welcome to apply; all editorial positions are decided by a staff.vote. Which brings us to my final thought: Congrats to all of December’s graduates. You will be missed, especially those on my staff and in my sibling organizations, WPSH Radio Club, TV Broadcasting Club, and Photography Club. I wish all the graduates best wishes and much luck in their future careers. GO PENN STATE! Now I will hand this off to Pete for his end of the semester remarks. So here we are at the end of the semester. It’s been very busy, but I must say that I had a lot of fun. After my first semester here at Penn State Harrisburg, the aspect I was most struck by was the quality of the courses and instruction. I learned the more this semester than in any other in my college career. My hats off to all the instructors for their hard work, which often goes unnoticed. I feel as though the newspaper has improved vastly since our first issue in early September. I hope it is helping the students as much as it’s helping me. I hope it’s as fun for you guys t 9 read as it is for us to put together. There is one thing I feel could benefit us a lot. Speaking personally, I often throw things into this paper blindly, hoping that they are interesting or entertaining. I’d like to hear more from you guys. Letters to the editor help us improve. I’d like to know whether you think something I write is hilarious, stupid, or just plain wrong. I’m trying to make a career out of this, so any feedback will help. In closing, I know everyone is working hard. But every once in a while, take a moment to have fun. College years should be a good time. Peace. “Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right” -Robert Hunter, sung in “Scarlet Begonias” by Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead.
