Comments from the EcJitor
By Pete Strella
Assistant Layout eclitor
The whole goal of this newspaper is to serve the Penn
State Harrisburg community. With that in mind, I thought it
would be appropriate to list some of the improvements that may
help out the campus a bit. These comments are not meant to point
the finger at anybody, just some food for thought.
If there is one area of education that this campus lacks
the most, it’s a solid music program. The quality of the music
classes here are good, but there aren’t enough of them. The school has no music theory classes. I
think that there is a market for the classes since my music theory class at HACC had over 25 stu
dents in it. HACC also had the history of rock n’ roll course, which was stellar. More classes like
this would be good.
My second complaint is minor, yet quite funny. Every time I put my hand on the railing
in the main staircase, it comes away with black stuff on it, like I’ve just been working in a coalmine
or something. I have to wash my hands between every class. There must be a better way.
My third point is the hypocrisy of the smoking situation in front of the Olmsted Building.
You’re not supposed to smoke there because students have to walk through clouds of smoke when
they leave or enter the building. Yet they have ashtrays right under the signs that say you’re not
supposed to smoke there. It’s like saying, “You’re not supposed to smoke here, but in case you do,
here’s a conveniently located ashtray for you.” I’m confused.
To make everyone happy, I propose we build a heated lounge with complimentary ciga
rettes .handed out by the Nittany Lion mascot. If this happenned, everyone would win.
