Over the past 10
years, tattoos and body
piercings have become
quite a phenomenon in
today's society. If some
one would have walked
into a job interview in
1987 with some piercings
on their face and tattoos
on their neck and lower
arms, most likely, they
wouldn't have been taken
seriously. Now it is much
more common to see this,
and it's also becoming
socially acceptable.
When college ends for
me in a little over three
months, I am going to go
out into the real world and
finally look for a nice job.

ble body piercings and/or
tattoos. This can cause
problems being hired,
because of first impres
sions, and since this will
affect me, this is why I am
driven to write this story.
I actually spoke with a
few employers, and I
received mixed reactions
from them.
Roxanne Showers, a
business manager at
Citadel Communications,
spoke with me about this
topic. Citadel owns many
radio stations in the
United States. When
speaking with her about
the chances of someone
being hired with visible
piercings and/or tattoos,

she stated that, "Their
piercings wouldn't have
any effect on them being
hired, not at all." She con
tinued by saying that, "we
run no judgment on any
one who comes in with
piercings or tattoos."
On the other hand, I
also spoke With Karen
Sloat, who is the assistant
controller for WGAL. She
stated; "It depends on the
severity of it and it
depends on what they
want to do within our
company." She continued
by adding; "Having pierc
ings or tattoos shouldn't
detract, but it does depend
on what position they are
seeking, especially on-air,
there is a certain dress
code."

equipment. The library ataff will exchange your old
card and add the ourrent balance to a new card. The
entire process takes about two minutes. Old vend
cards must be exchanged prior to February 28, 2002.
The old vend-card reader will not be available after
that date and the balance on the old card can no
longer be transferred to a new card.
