Robert Bressler, who is retiring at the end of this semester, made a touching trib ute regarding his experience at PSH and the transitions that have affected the school and him personally. Dr. Madlyn Hanes, PSH dean and provost, acted as master of ceremonies for the presentation, handing out plaques and lavish praise for the recipients of the university's 25-Year Service Chairs. Ansary humbly attributed his success to God and his family. Valerie Duhig was honored for her efforts on behalf of women's issues at the college. Dr. Margaret Rose Jaster shared a story about Sister Placid, who encour- aged her to go into teaching. Jaster also jokingly referred to her early career dilem ma: having to decide between becoming a teacher or a rock star. Not to be outdone, Hanes responded, "It's never too late. We can still start a band." The recognition ceremony celebrated the comraderie of faculty, staff and stu dents and showed the campus' apprecia tion of those who so richly deserve it. Marylou Martz, R.N., PH coordinator of health services, received an Achieving Woman Award during the Commission for Women's Women in Leadership spring banquet on March 19. Martz has served as chair of the Capital College Liaison Committee which sponsored a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and several fundraisers to support the committee's programs. Visiting scholar honored: Ivana Takacova, December 2000 graduate, has been named the recipient of the Sue Samuelson Award for Academic Excellence in American Studies. Takacova was a visiting scholar from Slovakia and will be returning to PSH from the University of Presov to receive her award during the April 29 award ceremony.
