SEE DEE? MUSIC REVI Reviewed By: The Gooseman Artist/Group: Duran Duran Album Title: Pop Trash Label: Hollywood Release Date: June 13, 2000 Genre: Rock/Pop Overall Rating ***** Simon Leßon and the boys have done it again. Pop Trash is a stu pendous album that returns to the sounds that made 1993's The Wedding Album such a success. With tracks like "Starting To Remember," "Pop Trash Movie" and "Mars Meets Venus," it's easy to see how this new album sounds so much like early 1990's Duran Duran tracks ("Ordinary World," "Come Undone") and less like late 1990's tracks ("Electric Barbarella," "Big Bang Generation"). The new song, "Someone Else Not Me" is one of the best slow ballads I've ever heard. For Fans of: Duran Duran's The Wedding Album Ratings Key Horrible * I've Heal Worse ** Borrow or MA Don't buy It $* I Would Progibly Buy It **** Stupendous *** Reviewed By: JDUB Artist/Group: Ludacris Album Title: Back For The First Time Label: Def Jam South Genre: Rap Overall Rating *** This CD is not worth buying. No disrespect, but the rhymes are weak and the beats are lame. Whoever produced this could have done much better. Now I'm no hater, so this album does have three good songs. They are What's Your Fantasy, Remix and Phat Rabbit. Then I listened to the CD again and I was like, "WHAT THE F**!?" If you throw Primus Slayer, Meshuggah and Helmet into a blender and blend to a fine paste, you would get something like "The Plan." Weird time changes, off-beat melodies and howling vocals dom inate the sound scope. It's definite ly one of those CDs that take some time to grow on you. If you're looking for something new that pushes the boundaries of loud rock though, give it a listen. I'll proba bly love it by next week! For Fans of: Messugah, Primus, System of a Down Reviewed By: Dirty - Artist/Group: Six Feet Under Album Title: Graveyard Classics Label: Metal Blade Release Date: Apocalypse Genre: Death Metal Overall Rating ***** As the title says, these are "Graveyard Classics." This album covers tracks from Venom, Angelwitch, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Dead Kennedys and Paul Revere and the Raiders. Six Feet Under is the darkest of dark, the deathest of death. As a matter of fact, I think the singer (if you wanna call it singing) is Satan him self. I recommend picking this album up and sharing it with your girlfriend's parents. I'll give this album a "stupendous" rating for the simple fact that I've never heard any band butcher and maim classic rock and roll like these guys do - it's wonderful. For Fans of: Morbid Angel, Lock Up REVIEWS Cheap seats Sticky Floors film reviews "Remember the Titans" By Steven E. Moses Capital limes Staff Writer Remember the Titans is by far one of the most inspirational movies of the year. If there's one movie to see this fall, this is it. The film is set in the early 19705, when high school football was life to the residents of Alexandria, Virginia. At that time, public officials were forced to integrate schools and they hired a black man, Herman Boone (Denzel Washington), to be the coach of the local team. Bill Yoast (Will Patton), the more popular former, coach, had to learn to co exist with Boone. Together, they shaped teenage boys into a team and taught them valuable lessons. Coaches Boone and Yoast healed a town torn by ignorance and preju dice through respect, determination and friendship. Based on a true story, Remember the Titans is about driving young men toward discovery and bonding. It was written by Gregory Howard Allan and_ directed by Boaz Yakin (his debut). The most notable scene in the movie occurs during a long training run that ends at the Gettysburg Battlefield. Coach Boone says, "Fifty thousand men died on the same field fighting the same battle we are still fighting today. If we too don't come together, we will be destroyed." Coach Boone emits intensity with fairness toward the players, the coaches and the community. Remember the Titans is not your typical Jerry Bruckheimer produc tion. His most popular productions include The. Rock, Enemy of the State, Gone in Sixty Seconds and Armageddon, where there are explosions, car chases and hostage situations. In Remember the Titans, Bruckheimer shows that a movie can be good without being an edge of-your-seat thriller. They can be about exhilarating emotions of the human spirit. Remember the Titans achieves this goal with its cast, emo tions and inspirations. In the long run, this film is, indeed, a winner.
