8 Monday, November 16,1998 MxPx re-releases oldies Brad Moist Assistant Editor MxPx, today’s most underrated punk band, has finally started to make it’s mark on main stream music. Signed to the independent label, Tooth and Nail Records in 1993, the band released three full length projects, two EP’s, and three 7’ vinyl’s all in 4 years. The band then signed with A & M Records, which decided to realize it’s latest Tooth and Nail re lease Life in General, to the mainstream market. Though when the band released it’s first mainstream market album called Slowly earVy this past summer, they finally got what they have been deserving for so long. Recognition. The band was selected to be part of the incredible Warped Tour, which featured bands such as the Deftones and Bad Religion. The band has also garnered a lot of airplay on college radio and peaked at no. 17 on the Top 200 college radio airplay according to College Music Journal. Their new single “The Downfall of Western Civilization”, which features Greg Heston of Bad Religion on lead guitar is receiving lots of airplay. But on November 17, the band is going back to their roots. Tooth and Nail Records, which found the band and de serves all recognition for sticking with them and helping the band to grow has decided to release a new MxPx album called Let It Happen. The album which has 32 tracks and is over 70 minutes in length shows the progression of growth in today’s best pop-punk band. The new release, only available through Tooth and Nail, is all of the songs released only on those three 7’ vinyl, and other previ ous unreleased material as well as some of their hits. It is by far a must get for all MxPx fans as it will be the first time you can get most of these songs on CD. It is this release that fans are waiting for because up to this point most of these songs guys from Bremerton, Wash., relate to Gen X. Songs like “Creation” and “Suggestion Box” from their early years, mirror almost a hardcore sound, have been remastered and included as well. The album is so much fun to listen to as you can hear the growth of west coast punk through it’s best representation, MxPx. Hits like “17” and “Punk Rawk Show” are also on the album and are songs that made MxPx who they are today. A great punk band that tons of teenagers can relate to and sing along with. Songs like “G.S.F\ which is a favorite of any guy who has had his heart ripped out, thrown on the ground, stepped on and then spit on by a girl is included on Let It Happen. The song which has the lyrics “She said can we just be friends? It’s just not working out. Another broken heart I can do without. Do with out. Girls Tooth and Nail, it’s safe to say sales of Let It Happen will be very profitable. But the label deserves the oppor tunity to make some more money off what legal rights they have to the band’s old ma terial. If you’ve got the money, this is a great al bum to get. Those three things will be clearly evident when the Sac ramento, CA based band the Deftones take the stage at the Electric Factory in Philadel phia this Saturday November 21 at 8:30 pm. They are by far a band of the masses, and for the masses. They represent a generation that is looking to express themselves, and they are by far very good at doing just that.
