THE PEOPLE To WATCH AWARD
is given to a Penn State Harrisburg
alumnus or alumna each year who
has made significant contributions
for the betterment of society. The
award winner should embody at
least one of the following character
istics: active in community affairs or
professional organizations, advanc
ing in his or her profession and
achieved academic distinction or
was active in campus activities while
at Perri State Harrisburg.
According to the 1996-1997 Student Activities Fee Manual, the following seven categories for fundi
were defined by the committee and they include:
• Campus activities: registered student organizations, campus media, publicity for student
activities, learning experiences and travel, and other activities that increase the college
experience for students outside of the classroom.
• Program Support: lecture series, cultural events, entertainment and music programs can b
included in this category
• Recreation: support of club and intramural sports, and facilities and equipment
Improvements to the PSH fitness center could be allowed under this category.
• Diverse Populations and Issues: this category identifies the need to fund programs and
activities that support underrepresented groups such as women's and multicultural issues.
Items for funding under this category should not only serve the needs of underrepresented
groups, but should also include the education of majority groups on minority issues. Subsidiz
child care, special lounges, and programs could be considered under this category.
• Facilities: upgrades of facilities, such as an expansion of a gymnasium, which directly
supports the out-of-class experience for students.
• Equipment: this allows a campus to provide clubs and organizations with equipment, such
as computers and printers, that support their activities.
• Selected Support Services: this provides campuses with the ability to fund services where
there is an obvious student need. This could include: athletics, career development and
placement, child care services, health services and education, personal counseling and
student activities.
