Love, continued from page 3
commandment was to "Love your Lord
your God with all your heart and with all
your soul, and with all your mind
(Matthew 22:38)."
The first commandment of loving God
without holding anything back 100
percent of the time is hard enough,
especially when it seems that nothing is
ever going my way, the second
commandment seems to he the hardest
for myself.
It is easier to love God because of His
unabiding love for me, but I, like other
Christians and nonbelievers, find it
much harder to love someone who hates
We as a nation and as the human race
have come back to the basics of love,
like when we were born. A child, when
he or she is little, has unlimited and
unconditional love. It is only when the
child is olderthat they arc taught to hate
and be prejudiced by older children and
adults.
The time has come for all of us to free
inhibitions. When another person who is
different from ourselves smiles, smile
back and don't turn your head.

I.GRISMAN AND GARCIA--
NOT FOR KIDS ONLY
Forget the parental advisories on this
album. . . No sir! No censorship
problems with these guys.
In fact, the new Garcia and Grisman
release manages to entertain both
grown—ups and children and encourages
everyone to actively participate in this
music. Based on the reactions of my
roomates and others, it's bound to bring
a bit of the child out in all of us!
Once the audio transmission begins, it
is hard not to humm along and laugh as
Jerry sings the prolific lyrics to songs
like, 'There Ain't No Bugs On Me" or
"Hop Along Peter".
Even more surprising is the direction
that these two musicians have taken
with this project. If you recall, the first
album was a virtuoso masterpiece
showcasing the outstanding acoustical
abilities on both Jerry's and David's
behalf. It also contained far less vocal
work.
"NOT FOR KIDS ONLY" is a
departure from that formula. The songs
are all folk tunes from the Southeastern
U.S., with a few old-time selections
added for good measure.
Diversity and simplicity are the keys
to this album. Garcia and Grisman are
playing well beyond the musical
expectations of both the bluegrass and
old—time music audience and are still
able to retain the cosmic energy that is
required to satisfy Deadheads. Yet, the
songs do not require that the listener be
particularly interested in any one genre.
Grisman's fluid mandolin lines and
Jerry's interstellar guitar tones mix well
with odd types of percussion and
instuments like the "Jews harp" to
create one of the most up—to—date
interpretations of folk music on vinyl.
This album should have been made
years ago!
Jerry's voice encorporates the raspy
"pack-a-day" tone that he is so well
