But the differences between women and men inherently tear them apart, as the Metamorphosis Performing Company tried to illustrate through a live performance titled "What's Goin' On?" to an audience of about 35 on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The program, sponsored by College Life Enrichment Offices, was comprised of four skits regarding the sexual miscommunication between women and men. The performers paused after each sequence so that moderator Michael Derman could field questions and give background information regarding each scenario. The actors portrayed characters who were faced with difficult dating situations regarding love, committment and sex. But the most tension mounted during two scenario's which addressed acquaintance rape. The second scene involved two classmates who met at an off-campus house party involving alcohol. The house belonged to the man, played by Jim We can't drive 35 Ann Feeney-McGovern Capital Times Staff Speeding drivers and jaywalkers beware. Chuck Alesky, supervisor of safety and police services, says that drivers are failing to stop at pedestrian sidewalks, and pedestrians are neglecting to use the designated crosswalks. As the scene progressed, Gilchrist led Rich up to his bedroom to allegedly play "hoops." Derman then stopped the scene for audience questions. "How can you fall for that oldest line?" a woman yelled to Rich from the crowd. When Gilchrist said that his character had no intentions of attempting any sexual activity, audience member Ann Hoover, answered back, "Give me a break, he's a man." Although many men from the audience vehemently disagreed with her generalization, many agreed that situations involving alcohol and sex are risky to both parties involved. "Men can prevent rape, and women can avoid it," Derman said, adding that the program's underlying purpose is to educate both in how to avoid risky situations. The dangerous situation arose when alcohol was involved and the couple isolated themselves from the main action. The woman was unsure of what she wanted sexually from the man and then See Sex, page 12 Patrolling has shown an increase in traffic around the new CE building area. Adding to the danger is the tendency for the strip of road to become slippery when wet. In response to these concerns, Alesky is considering lowering the speed limit. "We might lower the speed limit to 25 (m.p.h.) because 35 (m.p.h.) is tooligh if it's wet," he said. Under PA vehicle code section 3362, campus police are authorized to issue citations to speeding drivers. The costs for driving 10 miles over the speed limit can start at $94. -Just ask for the WPSH SPECIAL- 944-4141 Metamorphosis performers Wendy Rich, Jim Gilchrist, and Michael Derman (I. to r.) relax before the show.
