Redskins claim crown two weeks early
Mike Givler

THE NFC RECENTLY CROWNED
another Super Bowl champion when the
Redskins beat the Lions in the conference
championship. Sure, the Skins had to play
Buffalo in the actual Super Bowl, but it
turned out to be another "Super Bore" as
the NFC won for the eighth consecutive
lime.
Well, there's always the Pro Bowl to
look forward to if your an AFC fan. Oh,
that's right, the NFC won that game too.
Maybe the AFC should think about
joining the World Football League.
SCOTTIE PIPPEN SAID there was no
reason to panic when teammate Michael
Jordan was suspended after an altercation
during the Bulls six-game road trip. The
Bulls lost four of the games they played
on the trip out west, proving that Chicago
PSH explores possible
NAIA to NCAA move
Mike Givler
Capital Times Staff
Penn State Harrisburg has been
looking into the possibility of leaving the
NAIA and moving into the NCAA
Division 111 tanks. However, Athletic
Director Duane Crider said that due to a
rule change this may not be the wisest
thing to do.
Crider said that the NCAA is
discussing a transfer rule that would
require all junior college transfers (i.e.
community college or commonwealth
campus) to sit out one year of eligibility
when they come here. Crider added that
this wouldn't be a wise move for the
Coach, from page 15
during spring break. While there, the team
played other commonwealth campuses, as
well as NCAA Division II St. Joseph's,
Ind.
The baseball team was almost canceled
in 1990 after the team ended the season
with only eight healthy players. However,
last year the participation increased and the
college decided to field a team.

SIXER HERSEY HAWKINS recently
scored more points from the frcc-throw
line than New Jersey's entire team. In
Philadelphia's 115-94 win over the Nets,
Hawkins had 12 points from the charity
stripe, including four technical foul shots.
The Nets were 11-22 from the line. Is it
any wonder why the Nets were so thankful
for the expansion teams?
WHEN INDIANA BEAT DENVER
128-122, the two teams ended the game
with identical statistics in four categories.
Both teams had 43 field goals, 31 total
fouls, 18 turnovers, and were 5-8 from
college.
"I don't want to propose a move that
would wipe out our program," Crider said.
He added that because of this rule, the
college would have to play all second-year
athletes which are mostly seniors.
Crider said the reason for the move
would be to stay in-step with the other
teams in the district. Crider cited
Miscricordia, Alvernia and Beaver as
examples who have gone this route.
Crider is still looking into the
possibility of moving to the NCAA.
"I am still in contact with them to sort
out what future plans arc underway for the
NCAA, and I will sec what is the best for
our athletic program," Crider said.
The team did show some signs of life
last season, despite their lack of pitching
and a porous defense.
The first official baseball meeting will
be held at 9 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the
Capital Union Building (CUB).
The team is still looking for players,
and anyone interested in playing should
attend the meeting. Anyone who can not
be at the meeting should contact the
rccrcation/athletic office in the CUB.

guess they figured they'll be able to beat
the Sacramento Kings’ road losing streak
since there are tics in hockey.

CHARLES BARKLEY SAID he
thinks Earvin Johnson shouldn't play in
the All-Star game because he’ll over
shadow some of the players who have had
great first halves, like Barkley himself.
Don't worry, I'm sure Charles will find a
way to steal the spotlight once again,
possibly by punching someone in the
Orlando parking lot.
