IBM offers computer discounts Tim Brown Capital Times Staff Computer shopping may be the last thing on your mind as the semester comes to a close, but Penn State Harrisburg students, faculty and staff now have access to IBM computers and accessories, many at nearly half off the list price. The University has established a Microcomputer Order Center for several campuses. Penn State Harrisburg's center is located in room W 303 of the Olmsted Building. "College graduates don’t know they can purchase IBM products at up to 50 percent off because of academic cuts," said Doug McMillan, a recent graduate of Penn State Harrisburg and an IBM collegiate representative. "Our reps provide support before and after the sale, and are here to answer questions or demonstrate the computers," McMillan said. According to McMillan, the program is designed with a loan system to help students finance the cost of owning a computer. The "PS/2 Loan for Learning" program allows qualified students to borrow from $l5OO to $BOOO when purchasing an IBM PS/2 through the Microcomputer Order Center. McMillan said before the Microcomputer Order Center was set up on campus, students had to go through the hassle of speaking with representatives by phone at University Park, and hope that their orders were not screwed up. Prospective buyers, or those just curious about the center can go to the vendor display room, W 303. The room is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, or appointments are available with one of the college representatives. "It's a shame if students don't realize all that is available to them," McMillan said. "If they weren't students, the deal wouldn't apply. It's very advantageous, regardless of [their] major to have a computer."
