CAPITAL TIMES, August 22, 1990, FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK... Student apathy filtered through Olmsted's halls last year, but the 1990-91 academic year will be different! My hopes of a successful year with the clubs and organizations were renewed during orientation. While conducting club business in the SGA office, new students stopped in to ask information about joining various clubs. Do you hear that student leaders and club presidents? You don't have to beg or bribe students to become members -- just get information about your organizations to the students and they'll come to you! (Club Fest is next week so get ready to recruit new members.) • . • "Nothing to do?" There are approximately 40 active clubs and organizations on campus -- all relating to various majors and interests -- which provide an opportunity to work with other students as part of a team to achieve common goals. A successful college career directly depends upon what you put into it. You need more than books and lectures...what about practical experience! You can gain this experience by participating in a club that directly relates to your major and interests. Channel some of your time and energy into a student organization that would benefit from your input and yield important individual rewards as well. This is an upper division campus and graduation is right around the corner. Be warned: most employers look for students who participated in extracurricular activities because of the technical skills, leadership skills, and personal development you gain from being a team member. Besides providing important, practical experience related to your goals, the clubs and organizations give you a break from books and studying. There is so much more to college than books, so make the most of college. I believe working with others and practical work experience provides tangible knowledge you can use after you graduate. You'll discover why all the student leaders on campus have FUN and never complain about "nothing to do." With a combined effort, PSH clubs can be fun and successful. Your input in our organizations will eliminate student apathy at PSH! Victoria Cuscino Editor-in-Chief PINIONS qE.R.E.' 3 IAc:>TH usl c n -T-c, 72).c. otsl f". AVVPL ) Staff...
