TARNHELM CLAIMS PLACE AT CAMBRIDGE Peter Parisi Capital Times Advisor A copy of the 1990 Tarnhelm has been placed in the English and philosophy faculty library of Cambridge University in England. Alex Neill, who taught philosophy at Penn State Harrisburg last year, said he was impressed with the quality of the art and writing in the campus literary magazine. He put a copy in the browsing section of the library. "I thought it was rather good," Neill, a specialist in aesthetics, said in a phone interview. "I like the photography, and a whole bunch of the written pieces." He recalled specifically the photography of Kevin Facer and poetry of Karen Mowery. "I just thought it would be neat for people to have a look at it," he said. Neill earned his doctorate at Cambridge. The browsing section of the English and philosophy library of the centuries old English university is not part of the catalogued collection, Neill explained. It is "a place in the library where you can leave stuff for people to just come and read and marvel over, dither - because Yoti think it's interesting or don't need it any more." Having completed a one-year appointment at Penn State Harrisburg, Neill was back in England packing to move from Cambridge to San Antonio, Texas, where he will be visiting assistant professor of philosophy at Trinity University. NEW CHAPTER INSTALLED Special to the Capital Times Dawn Keefer Sigma Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi was installed on the Penn State Harrisburg campus May 1, 1990 at 5:30 p.m. Three faculty members, Dr. Ernest Dishner, Dr. Betty Fortner, and Dr. William Henk reaffirmed their memberships in this educational honorary society. Fifty-four faculty members and students became charter members of the Sigma Alpha Chapter. Mr. Ken Mele, field representative and installing officer, was assisted by Dr. Karen Nicholson and Dr. Betty Fortner, Chapter Counselors. Dr. Former accepted the charter from Mr. Mele, officially recognizing the chapter which became a reality because of the hard work and determination of several people including charter officers, Jill Snyder, .Mindy Sabol, and Dr. Nicholson, in the fall of 1989. Honored guests included Dr. Ruth Leventhal, Provost of PSH, and Dr. Dishner, newly appointed Associate Provost and Dean of Faculty. A reception held in the Capital Union Building for guests and members GENERAL NEWS Neill, a native Englishman, said he thought, "there's some interesting things in here. Why don't I just stick it in this browsing chunk of the library so people can see it?" Although Neill parted with his copy for the trans-Atlantic voyage, he asked a faculty friend to send him a new copy in Texas. The 1990 Tarnhelm was edited by Judith Johnson Farina and Karen Mowery. Theodora Rapp Graham is faculty advisor; Linda Ross, graphics advisor and Troy Thomas, photography advisor. In the issue, Celia Fox won first prize for fiction and poetry. Linda Eberly won first prize for photography. Other prize winners included: Kevin Facer (second prize, photography); Karen Mowery (second prize, poetry); and C. W. Heiser (third prize, poetry). Graham said,"l think there were unusually strong submissions from which these works were selected." Free copies of the magazine are available in the humanities division (W -360). Tarnhelm, which has appeared regularly on campus eve ry year since 1971 with Graham as advisor, will soon form a new editorial board, Graham said.
