CAPITAL TIMES, January 24, 1990 Maintenance from pg. 1 manager of Facilities and Maintenance Operations. The funding for the project was provided by the provost from the general budget Mahar said. Although, funds from the Humanities budget will •be spent for the furnishings in the offices. "The project will cost $3500," Witmer said. "We're hoping to have it finished on schedule by the middle of February." GENERAL NEWS The plan for the expansion was very innovative in that it allowed the division to reclaim over 100 . feet of space originally used for storage. "We recognized the need for extra office space and this seemed like a logical thing to do," Dr. Mahar said. "The maintenance department came up with a creative response to the space problem." "The only bad thing was NYV'hen I call Mom, she either wants to talk art or football. Usually football?, that we could not have natural lighting through a skylight," he added. The expansion itself will contain a open work area for professors in the Humanities division as well as housing the divisions slide collection of over 40,000 slides. This will allow the current slide archive room to be turned into two brand new offices, as well as converting Dr. Simon Bronner's current Go ahead, call her up and let her know the score. According to Dr. Mahar, the old part-time faculty office will be turned into an interactive video classroom. This classroom would allow two way video and audio instruction between University Park, Penn State Harrisburg and other campuses, in the Penn State network. One of the professors scheduled to receive a new office is first year faculty member Dr. Patricia E. Johnson. Johnson, who previously taught at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, is ct. rently cramped into the back corner of the part-time faculty office located in W-335 . Picture from pg. 1 program is student orientated and so is the theme of the picture." Crieder is excited about the photo, he likes that the photo is all about students. "Students arranged the photo, students are in the photo, a student took the photo and now the photo is in the student newspaper. Basically, all around students are involved" said Crieder. Crieder feels that Hoover should be recognized for all she did. He added - that something like this photo has been in the making for the past 2 1/2 years. Hoover commented that she couldn't thank everyone involved in the picture enough and that the credit should go to the people in the photo. The picture all began in Hoover's Public Relations class last semester. Hoover said her group was stumped on what to do for their final PR project and finally decided to promote the gym. The photograph was needed to show all that gym offered. In the future this photo might lead to an independent study for Hoover and Wayne Schaeffer. The independent study would include videotaping activities around the gym and then set the tape to music with a narration on Penn State-Harrisburg. "With the videotape we are going to try and capture the essence of sports activities here" said Hoover. Hoover likes the gym and all that it has to offer. The gym offers anyone something to do. Whether it be aerobics, weight lifting, raquetball, volleyball or a quick game of basketball.
