    CAPrrAL TIMES, January 24, 1990
manager of Facilities and
Maintenance Operations.
The funding for the project
was provided by the provost
from the general budget
Mahar said. Although, funds
from the Humanities budget
will be spent for the
furnishings in the offices.
"The project will cost
$3500," Witmer said. "We're
hoping to have it finished on
schedule by the middle of
February."
The plan for the expansion
was very innovative in that it
allowed the division to
reclaim over 100 feet of space
originally used for storage.
"We recognized the need
for extra office space and this
seemed like a logical thing to
do," Dr. Mahar said. "The
maintenance department
came up with a creative
response to the
problem "

"The only bad thing was
that we could not have
natural lighting through a
skylight," he added.
The expansion itself will
contain a open work area for
professors in the Humanities
division as well as housing
the divisions slide collection
of over 40,000 slides.
This will allow the current
slide archive room to be
turned into two brand new
offices, as well as converting
Dr. Simon Bronner's current
office into the new part-time
faculty office.
According to Dr. Mahar,
the old part-time faculty
office will be turned into an
interactive video classroom.
This classroom would allow
two way video and audio
instruction between
University Park, Penn State
Harrisburg and other
campuses in the Penn State
network.
