Local church invites
public to community
carol sing
The public is cordially invited to an
old fashioned Carol Sing at Old St.
Peter's Kierch in Middletown on Sunday,
Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.
The Old Kierch, built in 1769, is
featured on many historical tours. The
building is located on the corner of
Union and High Streets in Middletown.
This annual caroling is hosted by St.
Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church of
Middletown and the congregation is
looking forward to welcoming members
of the community to an old fashioned
evening of Christmas fellowship.
Favorite carols will be sung and
refreshments will be served.
The program consists of alternating
lesson readings and carols, and is divided
into three sections: The Wait, The Birth ,
and The Epiphany.
The Wait will consist of a reading
from the book of Isaiah, and the carols
"0 Come, 0 Come, Immanuel," "Lo,
How a Rose Is Blooming," "0 Little
Town of Bethlehem."
The Birth will consist of readings
from the Gospels of St. Matthew, St.
Luke, and the carols "Joy to the World,"
"0 Come All Ye Faithful," "Away in a
Manger," "Hark! The Herald Angels
Sing," and "Angels We Have Heard on
High."
The Epiphany will consist of a
reading from the Gospel of St. Matthew
and the carols "The First Noel," "Bring a

Common Exams and Conflict Exams may be scheduled on Saturday, December 17, 1988
Conflict Examinations occur when (a) two or more final examinations are scheduled at the same time,
or (b) three or more examinations are scheduled on the same day. Students having Conflict
laminations mat file a Conflict Examination Request Form in the Registrar's Office by Monday
November 28. 1983.
Final examinations fulfill two important academic objectives: student integration of instructiorm,
material and end-of-semester evaluation of student achievement. However, valid meanie other than
the final examination also accomplish these objectives (e.g., term paper, final project report,
take-home examination, etc.). Course instructors determine which of these methods is most
appropriate.
In addition, course instructors are expected to
1. Offer a full schedule of instruction
2. Schedule no examinations during the last week of classes.
(Quizzes and narrowly limited tests may be given.)
3. Schedule final examinations during the established final examination period
4. When a final examination is not required, require the submission of an alternative means no
earlier than the first day of the final examination period.

Mahar feels it "makes us [the
humanities division] different." He said
of the 1200 humanities programs in the
country, only 200 offer bachelor of
humanities degrees. He also explained
that last spring the humanities division
enacted a change from options to majors
because the latter is more commonly
recognized and respected by businesses.
Other issues discussed at the forum
included the increasing need for more
computer space for humanities students
and the possiblity of humanities students
receiving credit for working with The
Capital Times or WPSH.
Mahar said, "Managing the school
newspaper or radio station is very good
experience for later on."
Mahar concluded the forum by
reminding humanities students he is
always available to talk to. He said,
"My door is always open."
