Artist's
Paintings on
Exhibit
A show of contemporary
expressionistic paintings dealing with
mythical, mystical and universal
concepts of spirituality is the current
exhibit in the Humanities Gallery. The
artist, Catherine A. Jones of Baltimore,
has been strongly influenced by Albert
Pinkham Ryder and, like him, paints
loosely, atttempting to express the inner
spirit rather than the surface of reality.
Contemporary feminist writers who have
dealt with ancient' religions and
philosophers are also inspirational
sources for the artist who wants to
convey a sense of the feminine ego
through the work.
A graduate of the State
University College at Buffalo and the
Maryland Institute College of Art, Jones
has exhibited throughout Maryland and
is scheduled for a show at the Amos Eno
Gallery, New York City. This is her
first exhibit in the Harrisburg area.
The Humanities Gallery is
located on the third floor of the Olmsted
Building in W-352 and W-360. Hours
are 8-5 pm Monday through Friday and
evenings when faculty are in their
offices. The show will run through
October.

The XGIs are busy this

blood drive, they are planning three other
activities. All are veteran related.
The first is a bus trip to the

Washington, D.C. The projected date is

there will be a ceremony to honor the
dead. Included in the ceremony are bugle
calls, the shooting of a cannon, lowering
of the flag, and taps will be played. All
servicemen and reservists are invited to
wear their uniforms and all members of
the campus community are invited to
attend. Later in November, just before
the Thanksgiving holiday, the club will
visit the Veteran's Hospital in Lebanon
to spread some good cheer and to deliver
goodies to the patients.
If any of the activities
mentioned seem to catch your eye, you
may consider joing the XGIs. It doesn't
matter who you are, male or female;
civilian or serviceperson. You could
have some fun while doing a good
service to the community.
You may be thinking about
choosing one of the newer
carriers over AT&T in order to
save money.
Think again.
Since January 1987, AT&T's
rates have dropped more than
15% for direct-dialed out-of
state calls. So they're lower than
you probably realize. For infor
mation on specific rates, you
can call tis at 1 800 222-0300.
And AT&T offers clear long
distance connections, operator
assistance, 24-hour customer
service, and immediate credit
for wrong numbers. Plus, you
can use AT&T to call from
anywhere to anywhere, all over
the United States and to over
250 countries
You might be surprised at
how good a value AT&T really
is. So before you choose a
long distance company, pick
up the phone.
