"Know When To Say When" Program for Responsible
Drinking is a Success
By Jan Travers
Alcohol abuse is not a problem
which will just go away. Mention
curbing drinking in a roomful of people,
and everytime you will hear the
argument that interference with a
person's right to drink is tantamount to
crushing his personal freedom to drink.
So what's the answer?
According to Anheuser-Busch,
the answer lies in the education of the
public. Through their various programs,
the message is consistent, drink
responsibly.
On March 24, a "Know When
to Say When" program was held in the
Gallery Lounge. Sponsored by Leisa
McGee, R.A. in cooperation with the
Capital Times, the program consisted of
a luncheon, film, and followed by a
question and answer period led by Dr.
Ed. Beck, counselor at Capital College.
During the discussion period,
Beck offered some advice. "It is your
responsibility to yourself to make
Student Center to Undergo Renovations
By Denise Reinas
This March, Penn State at Hat
iisburg, received funds from University
Park for renovations to the student cen
ter. $14,365 will be used to complete
the final phase of the student center.
Joe Kemp, manager of facilities
and maintenance operations, stated that
the request for funding began in 1985,
but was not approved by University Park
until March 1987.
It was the students' request to
update the student center. Prior to the
final phase, which will begin at the
close of the semester, two other phases
were completed. They also consisted of
renovations to the student center, and the
funding came from student-related

decisions on how to treat your body and
how your behavior will impact on
others," he said. "Know yourself and
your good judgment," Beck added.
If turnout was any indication of
desire for this type of education, the need
is present. About 30 people attended the
luncheon/film and stayed to participate
in the discussion. Of particular interest
was the topic of driving under the
influence, with several members of the
audience volunteering their experiences
with being arrested.
Encouraged by the participation
and interest in the program, Beck said
later he would like to see a similar
program held in the. fall. "Allowing the
students to run and plan the program
builds an acceptance by their peers,"
Beck said.
Free handouts, donated by
Wilsbach Distributors, Linglestown,
included: key rings, bumper suckers,
pens, brochures, and Eagle Brand snacks.
The Capiatal soccer
