Page 4 "Know When To Say When" Program for Responsible Drinking is a Success By Jan Travers Alcohol abuse is not a problem which will just go away. Mention curbing drinking in a roomful of people, and everytime you will hear the argument that interference with a person's right to drink is tantamount to crushing his personal freedom to drink. So what's the answer? According to Anheuser-Busch, the answer lies in the education of the public. Through their various programs, the message is consistent, drink responsibly. On March 24, a "Know When to Say When" program was held in the Gallery Lounge. Sponsored by Leisa McGee, R.A. in cooperation with the Capital Times, the program consisted of a luncheon, film, and followed by a question and answer period led by Dr. Ed. Beck, counselor at Capital College. During the discussion period, Beck offered some advice. "It is your responsibility to yourself to make Student Center to Undergo Renovations By Denise Reinas This March, Penn State at Hat iisburg, received funds from University Park for renovations to the student cen ter. $14,365 will be used to complete the final phase of the student center. Joe Kemp, manager of facilities and maintenance operations, stated that the request for funding began in 1985, but was not approved by University Park until March 1987. It was the students' request to update the student center. Prior to the final phase, which will begin at the close of the semester, two other phases were completed. They also consisted of renovations to the student center, and the funding came from student-related aNd. -vow 4.410 -op aitoP ..4000 FOX'S MARKET MIDDLETOWN THE POINT HERSHEY CEDAR CLIFF MALL monies The final phase will consist of track lighting at the west stage area, the purchase of an electronically-operated projection screen, the purchase and installation of two vinyl folding par titions to screen and secure the table and chair storage area in the general purpose room, the purchase and installation of draperies on the north wall windows, the quiet room, and the general purpose room, and last, the purchase of one hundred additional stacking chairs with transporter. "Know yourself and your good judgment," Beck added. If turnout was any indication of desire for this type of education, the need is present. About 30 people attended the luncheon/film and stayed to participate in the discussion. Of particular interest was the topic of driving under the influence, with several members of the audience volunteering their experiences with being arrested. Encouraged by the participation and interest in the program, Beck said later he would like to see a similar program held in the. fall. "Allowing the students to run and plan the program builds an acceptance by their peers," Beck said. Free handouts, donated by Wilsbach Distributors, Linglestown, included: key rings, bumper suckers, pens, brochures, and Eagle Brand snacks. The Capiatal soccer team finished its season by winning the third place trophy in the Commonwealth Campus Tournament on the Ogontz Campus in Philadelphia. Team members Jim Hering, Brian Krom, Dave Ploch, Chip Winner, Dale Zartman, Kim Mazur, and John Rivell all participated in the indoor event. The team is looking for a strong season next year with the return of seven starting players. April 8, 1987
