Melvin Blumberg Melvin Blumberg is the new head of the Business Ad ministration Division at Capitol this semester. Blumberg earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the Pennsylvania State Univer sity, a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Widner University and a Masters degree in Business Ad ministration from the Universi ty of Pittsburgh. “I came to Capitol because I like the central Pa. area and I like the quality of life here, also I like Penn State and Penn Staters,” Blumberg said. Blumberg is presently work ing with the faculty and ad ministration to develop some new courses. The courses in clude Computer Science, Marketing and Accounting and will probably be phased into the curriculum within the next year. “lam working with both the faculty and the business’ to assess programs and find out what the community needs, next year I’ll probably be Oya Culpan comes to Capitol Campus this semester with a wide educational background and experience. She received her Ph.D. in sociology from Hacettepe University in Turkey where she also taught as a professor for eight years. She completed her graduate work at the Universi ty of Conneticut and undergraduate work at Leeds, England “I like the students here,” said Culpan,“they seem to en joy the field and are very pro fessional oriented and respon sible.” Culpan said there are some cultural adjustments to make coming from another country but “teaching is universal.” According to Culpan,“students are what make the difference, the context is the same.” “I have studied and spent most of my life abroad and I’m finding a continuity in my career regardless of where I am,” she said. Culpan taught part-time last semester at Capitol Campus and previously at the York Campus. This semester she is teaching Behavioral Concepts in Business (MNGMT 310) and Business Strategies (BUS 364). John John Joseph earned a Ph.D. in curriculum education from Penn State. He has been employed in various positions at Capitol Campus since 1966 but this is his first year as a full time professor. Previously Joseph served as head of instructional services, assistant to the provost, and assistant provost. “For the most part I postponed my teaching and research to take on these posi tions and now I’m just getting back into it,” Joseph said. He is currently researching the application of technology to education. “I am very in terested in visualized instruc tion which includes video materials and most recently computers.” This semester Joseph teaches Multi Media Technology 301 and Technology in Education 531. Joseph said in the future he would like to instruct more multi media courses particular ly in the area of television. Joseph holds both a bachelor of arts degree and a masters degree in broadcasting from Penn State. Itossein Haydari New to the engineering department is Hossein Haydari of Elizabethtown. Haydari at tended Southern Illinois University where he received a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. Currently, Haydari is working on his Ph.D. “1 was attracted to the Penn State University system because of the prestigious reputation it holds throughout the nation,” Haydari said. He previously taught at Ocean County College in New Jersey for two years. While there, Haydari organized a course in robotics based strict ly on his lectures. Haydari has a keen interest in robotics. At Penn State, he said he will be able to continue research in the relatively new field of robotics.
