Runners bring campus first championsh By Robert Rejmaniak For the first time in Capitol Campus history there is a first place trophy in the Multi- Purpose Building’s showcase thanks to the Cross-Country team. “The team members have worked hard. They won because they wanted it,” says Coach Bud Smitley. “There were no loafers on the team this year.” PENN STATE/CAPTIOL CAMPUS RECREATION/ATHLETICS INTRAMURAL FLAG FOOTBALL STANDINGS November 2,1982 1. He runs a strict practice, but doesn’t expect too much. “Our practices started at 3 p.m. and most of the time we were done by 4:30 p.m.,” Smitley said. “We didn’t run too long, but when we ran, we ran hard.” “I realize this is a tough cam pus academically,” Smitley said. “The idea was not to turn the guys off to running by hav- WIN loss POINTS points POINTS Intramural Schedule FOR AGAINST 139 77 74 .54 31 16 100 52 78 53 6 8 ing long, exhausting practices.” Perhaps both hard work and good coaching were responsible for the team’s success, or maybe it was just a love for running. Either way, the Capitol Campus Cross-Country runners are champions in the truest sense of the word. Team members included: A 1 Feiertag, Dave McNamara, A 1 Newhart, Kris Rubino, Greg Sloditskie, Jerry Trently, and Dave Wicks.
