Road runners
Run for fun

If you love to run but don't
necessarily want to be a marathon
runner then the Capitol Campus
Road Runners Club may be for
you.
The Road Runners Club offers
great fun and exercise to anyone,
from the beginning jogger to the
experienced cross-country runner.
Races the club will participate
in include a five mile poker run,
in which runners are handed a
poker card at each mile mark,
and upon finishing, the runner
with the best hand wins; a 10
kilometer prediction run, where
each runner predicts his/her own
finishing time, with the one com
ing closest to the predicted time
winning; a jogathon for charity;
and other off campus races.
The club is also a way to
receive serious instruction on run
ning from the club adviser, cross
country coach, Bud Smitley.
As Smitley put it, "This club is
for anyone who wants to run.
Whether they run 10 kilometers or
half a mile, we'll find a place for
them."
John Nichols
grant given

In memory of Dr._ John
Nichols, a scholarship will be
given this year to a Capitol
Campus student.
John Richard Nichols, pro
fessor of social science and
psychology, died June 10 follow
ing a brief illness, ironically, he
would have retired at the end of
the month.
Since 1968 when Dr. Nichols
came to Capitol Campus, he has
been known to his students as
the "teacher who taught us to
like chickens." He used
chickens in behavioral
modification experiments.
Not only is he remembered
by his students, he's
remembered by The Capitol
Campus Women's Club, who of
fered the students a memorial
scholarship in his name.
The Capitol Campus Faculty
Women's Club traditionally
gives grants to students in
honor of a deceased faculty or
staff member.
The Capitol Campus Faculty
Women's Club, Scholarship and
Loan Fund is for full-time
undergraduates, that meet re
quirements of both financial
need and academic
achievement.
The scholarship is given in
the form of tuition payment.
