Bomb Squad captures I.M. crown
BOMBS AWAY!

The Bomb Squad captured the 1980-
81 Capitol Campus intramural basketball
, crown, defeating the Bay Area Bombers
38-19 before thousands of cheering fans
(okay, maybe it was closer to two or
three silent bystanders).
Jack Badstibner led the scoring with
18 points. Other Bomb Squad members,
Mark Fuhrman and Mike Miller, added
seven points each. The rest of the
championship team includes: John
Buzzy, Vince Tutich, Jim Weber, Mike
Krahel, Tom Farquahar, and Mark Man
ion.
High scorer for the losing Bombers
was Doug Long, with six points; Rick
Joyce added five. Other team members
include: Les, Miller, George Kalinovich,
Gary Yannes, Danny Villani, Jeff Davis,
Clyde Myers, Ken Aducci, Vince Camp
ellone, and Bill Day.
The Bomb Squad finished first in the
regular season with a 13-1 record. They
defeated the fourth-place Hershey
Scrubs in semi-final action. The Bombers
ended the season tied for second with
Martino's Men, both 12-2; they beat
Martino's Men in semi-final play.

Believe it or not, the Montreal
Canadiens have been eliminated by the
Edmonton Oilers! I bet you couldn't
name five guys on that team, excluding
Wayne Gretzky. Well, how would you
like to have been ousted by a goaltender
named Moog? The Oilers have the
youngest team in the NHL (average age
24) and maybe, just maybe, they could
be the team to reckon with this year, if
not, next year.
But overall, I think the team to beat
has to be the defending champions from
Long Island. The Islanders faced no
competition while beating Toronto in
three straight. They possess so much
depth that in their final regular season
game they sat out Bossy, Trottier,
Potvin, Kallur, and Goring. They even
played their second-string goalie, Roland
Melanson. Final score--Isles 7, Buffalo 3.
The defense rests.
Another surprise has to be the
Minnesota North Stars. They were the
visiting team, meaning that Boston had
the home-ice advantage in their playoff
series. In addition, in the North Stars'
history they had never won in the
Boston Garden. Throw that statistic
away, or just burn it! The Stars shocked
Beantown by destroying the Bruins
twice in the Garden. Then they came
home and wrapped things up to advance
another round in the playoffs.
Another team that advanced, in a
surprise s was the New York Rangers.
They defeated the 'Los Angeles Kings
three games to one. In a series that was
marred by a record-setting brawl, the
Rangers kept their cool and played good
solid hockey. They were led by rookie
netminder Steve Baker, who played the
best hockey of his young career.
Calgary also swept its series rather
easily. Buffalo, with its splendid goal
tending, romped over the Vancouver
Canucks in three straight.
