One of my old school buddies came
down to visit this weekend just to twist
my arm and make me say it. Hey,
Lenker, I'm not a biased writer so I'll say
it. CONGRATULATIONS PHILLIES!
A good long baseball season was had
this year even though sportswriters are
saying it was a boring year. Three
divisions in the majors went down to the
wire for the title.
George Brett, the new blue bomber,
chased a .400 average all year, and Steve
Carlton continued to leave batters at the
plate ("What the hell did he just throw,
ump? I didn't see it.")
The playoffs and the World Series
were good action, and I enjoyed watch
ing George Steinbrenner storm out of
the stadium after his billion dollar team
went down the chute.
Good God, I hope the baseball world
can find some new umpires for next
year's World Series.
Well, either the Pack is back or the
Steelers are still shaky. I mean, the
Packers should be losing by more than
two points to the four-time world cham
pions.
How 'bout them Eagles, 8-1, best
record in the NFL. I sure hope Jaworski
can hold it together for the playoffs. The
annals of football show many quarter
backs falling apart, but we doubt it, don't
we gang?

By Ken Aducci,
into the middle toOstaziewski; he shoots
and scores, the fans go wild. STOP!!!
What fans?
You should know better -- this is a
Capitol Campus sporting event. C'mon
crew, fans at one game totalled only
three! Now this is getting ridiculous.
You guys and gals have one more chance
to show your support, but it won't take
me long to thank the fans who did show
up and, by Budweiser, I'm printing it.
Thanks Rosanne, Helen, Laura, Michelle
and maybe one or two more I didn't
notice.
I went down to the gym Thursday
night after our soccer game and watched
the basketball team working out. I must
say it looks like a winning season coming
up for Capitol. There are even 11
cheerleaders this year, and the basket
ball team usually gets a decent crowd.
So you Juniors watch the basketball
schedule cause in case you haven't
heard, the games are all right.
Here are the intramural standings
(football):
Night Riders 5-0
Kamikazees 3--1--1
0-B Highway 3-1--1
Deja Vu 2--2-1
Bricks in the Wall 1--3
No Names 1-3--1
Mash 1-4

The scene was set in front of a near
capacity crowd of 83,000 chilled fans.
The Hurricanes of Miami-Florida came
storming in Lion Country with hopes of
upsetting Penn State again this year.
By the time the Nittany fans were
bundled-up in their seats Miami was
leading Penn State 3-0. Then Blackledge
and Company went to work on the
Hurricane defense. Todd Blackledge was
having a good day throwing the ball to
open receivers like Brad Scovill and
Kenny Jackson. With the score 6-3 in
favor of the Lions, Penn State marched
up the field 80 yards on 13 plays, with
Booker Moore going over from one yard
out. From then on Penn State was never
behind.
On that cold brisk day, things were
going too good for the Lions. The
"almost turning point" came when Penn
State had a third and eight on their own
two. and Coach Paterno decided to
punt:. Well, the crowd was unhappy but
vas! even more upset as to what
happened next. Fred Marion returned
the Penh State punt 53 yards to make
the score 17-12.
Then it was time for the Curt Warner
Show. Warner was the key man for Penn
State. He once again proved he can
handle the pressure by carrying . the
ball 24 times for 146 yards.
Besides Warner having a superb day,
a vote of praise must go to Todd
Blackledge for his good performance. He
was 10-24-130 yards, but what surpris
ed 83,000 fans was he came out throw
ing.
On their first play from scrimmage,
Blackledge faked a reverse to Jackson
and threw to Brad Scovill 25 yards down
the field. That play set the tone for the
outcome of the game.
The Lions wrapped up their 7th win
of the season, when Blackledge hit Vyto
Kab all alone in the end zone late in 4th
period. Herb Menhaydt added a 25 yard
field to make the score Penn State 27,
Miami 12.
Penn State now will host the halfback
from North Carolina State. After five of
the teams ahead of Penn State in the
polls lost on Saturday, the Lions should
move up. Just ahead and waiting for
Penn State are the Panthers from
Pittsburgh.
