page 6 By Bruce Burns The first season of NAIA competi tion took its toll upon the 1980 PSU- Capitol Campus Baseball Lions, but with most of the squad returning for next season, there is much hope that PSU/Capitol can improve upon this campaign's dismal 1-11-1 record. After the Lions' tremendous win over Haverford College in mid-season, they went on to lose their last eight games of the year. Included among the defeats were several contests the Lions should have won, and with the expert encl . gained this season, should wir next year. he hitting excellence PSU/Capitol displayed in the early portion of the season dropped off dramatically in the IM Sof INTRAMURAL SOFTBALL RED DIVISION TEAM WON LOST Gas House Gang 6 2 Nuclear Wastes 6 2 Brewski's 5 2 Flying Wombats 5 3 XGI 4 3 Bad Co. 4 4 Pallbearers 4 4 Root beer Rags 1 7 Wrisberg Weenies 0 8 WHITE DIVISION TEAM WON LOST First Year Class 6 1 Redneck Sultans 5 1 Doughboys 5 1 Ballbusters 5 2 Sultans of Swing 3 5 Stoned Rangers 2 4 WSDC 2 5 Quaaludes 1 5 WCFCL 1 6 BLUE DIVISION TEAM Elwood's Boys 7 0 No Names 6 1 Lappers 5 3 Big Sticks 4 3 The Graduates 3 3 NAEYE 3 5 Beta City Bombers' 2 1 ", Bufoon Platoon 1 ,?, Internatio, il Bears 1 ' The intramural softball season is winding down to a close this week as the four play-off teams will be decided. All the members of the team are proud of themselves for a successful season. WSDC picked up its second victory of the season last week, conquering the Stoned Rangers by 18-7. The game was marked by the sparkling defensive play of WSDC and the timely two-out hitting of the winners. The Redneck Sultans improved their record to 5-1 recently with a 23-8 win over the Ball Busters in five innings. Walt Conrad led the winners with four hits, while seven other Sultans stroked three hits each. WON LOST latter part of the schedule, as the Lions finished the season with a poor .212 team batting average. Another area that helped set back the Lions repeat edly all year was their defensive inabilities, as PSU/Capitol committed a staggering 60 errors in 13 outings. There were several fine performers' among this season's squad, headed by outfielder Vince Cardullo. The junior from New York most likely would have been a serious NAIA District 19 all-star candidate had he not broken his wrist early in the second half of the campaign. Cardullo finished his season with a sparkling .393 batting average, and turned in several solid defensive games during the season before his untimely injury. Along with Cardullo, fellow juniors ROOTBEER RAGS FLYING WOMBATS W SDC Conrad and "Boz Czar" Burns each batted in four runs for the victors. The Sultans also blasted five home runs in the contest, with"boz Czar" smashing two mega-homers. Winning pitcher "Lester" Musser ran his record to 4-0 with the decision.
