Thursday, April 10, 1980 Master Charge Visa Accepted 1980-81 Resident Assistant Selections Begins A meeting for all persons interested in becoming Resident Assistants dur ing the next academic year was held Tuesday evening, April 8, 1980, at 7;00 p.m. in the Gallery Lounge. The duties and responsibilities of Resident Assis tants were discussed, followed by the distribution of applications. Refresh ments were available to allow for informal questions and answers at the end of the session. Those who were unable to attend may pick up applications from their Resident Assistant, from the Wrisberg Hall Office, or from the Residence Living Office at 946 A Kirtland Avenue. The screening of candidates for the Resident Assistant position is based on peer review on the part of current Resident Assistants and members of the residence governing organizations; evaluations of each candidate by the Faculty Program Heads, the Student Affairs Staff, and the Department of Housing and Food Service, and refer ences submitted by each candidate. Among other qualities and compe tencies sought in applicants are an ability to relate to others in an effective and mature fashion;an ability to coun sel and advise on personal and school related problemsiknowledge of Cam pus and community resources for refer ral and informational purposes; an ability to assume a disciplinary role when necessary; and a positive atti tude toward the entire Campus com munity, its spirit, and its potential. Screening of applicants includes a review of the application, references and group interview performance. Qualified candidates remaining on the list will be considered for alternacy to R.A. positions which may become available during the 1980-81 academic year. Appointments are announced following the release of Spring Term grades at the end of June. Persons submitting applications must have a 2.00 cumulative grade point average, and must be attending classes at the Capitol Campus at the time of filing the application. In addi tion, they should obtain a request for Fall Term housing from the Housing Office, and submit it along with the $45.00 advance deposit to the Finance Office. Interested persons should feel free to contact any member of the Resi dence Living Program Staff for further information. The deadline for filing applications for the Resident Assistant position is Friday, April 18, 1980 in the RLPO. Important Meeting The Provost's Advisory Committee on Student Welfare will hold their Spring Term Meeting- at 3 p.m., Wed nesday, April 30 in the Gallery Lounge. Students, faculty, and staff who have items which they would like to have placed on the agenda for this meeting should submit them to Dr. South or Michael Sheldon by Friday, April 25th.
