Conference on
the Middle East
A special conference on recent
developments in the Middle East will
be held April 12 at Capitol Campus.
Titled "U.S. Geo-Political Interests
and the Middle East," the conference
will run from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at the Main
Building Auditorium. The program is
open to the public.
The conference, planned by Ameri
can Professors for Peace in the Middle
East, is designed to provide in-depth
discussions of the latest developments
in Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Israel,
Lebanon, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The two principal speakers will '
Joseph Eaton and Saul Katz, boti
professors at the University of Pitt
burgh Graduate School of Public Al
fairs. The chairperson of the confer
ence is Professor Elmer N. Lear
Capitol Campus. The members of t
Planning Committee represent Dicki,
son College, Dickinson School of Lim
Elizabethtown College, Franklin &
Marshall College, M.S. Hershey Col
lege of Medicine (Pennsylvania State
University). and Millersville State Col-'
lege.
A supper will be held after the
conference at the student dining hall
(attendance optional). A nominal fee
will be charged.

ThelPittsburgh Black Theatre Dance
Ensemble will perform at Penn State/
Capitol Campus on April 15 at 8 p.m. in
the auditorium. The ensemble's reper
toire includes Afro-American, Modern,
Jazz, Ballet, _and African dancing.

Ensemble was formed in 1970 by eight
young people from the University of

Hutsah
Hobbit
J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy, The
Hobbit, will be presented in the Aud
itorium on April 10, 1980, at 7:00 p.m.
The Hutsah Puppet Thearte will bring
dwarfs, elves, and trolls to life as part
of the two-hour prelude to Tolkien's
trilogy, The Lord of the Rings.
The six-member Hutsah Puppet
Theatre will manipulate more than 30
almost-life-size puppets. Rusty Steiger,
an actor and musician, directs the
troupe. Steiger composed the musical
score and ,built most of the puppets for
the show.
The troupe has also performed a
series of television commercials and
"Singing through the Trees," a child
ren's musical. The Hobbit, was chosen
for this performance because of its
popularity among college students.
"I think it's a shame that fantasy is
often set aside in adolescence in the
name of growing up and being cool.
Why is it appropriate for a kid to watch
a puppet show or a cartoon or play
kick-the-can, but not an adult?" asks
Steiger.
All ages can enjoy The Hobbit as
performed by the Hutsah Puppet
Theatre. Admission for the show is $l.
Pittsburgh and the African Heritage
Society. Bob Johnson is its choreo
grapher rnd instructor.
The company strives to relate the
black cultural experience in its perfor
mance and is devoted to artistic growth
and expression.
