It was a nightmarish sea
son. There were many em
barrassing scores, several
frustrating events on and off
the court, and very few wins.
The final record shows the
1979-80 , PSU/ Capitol Basket
ball Lions with a 3-22 mark,
including the fact they drop
ped their final fifteen games
of the campaign.
What the final record does
not show is the tremendous
courage and determination of
these players and coaches,
who lived through one of the
most difficult basketball sea
sons possible. Losers only in

For the past seven weeks
the Capitol Campus Girls'
Volleyball team has been
competing in the Middle
town-Highspire Women's
Volleyball league. Because
this is not a varsity sport the
girls are not competing
against other colleges but
against older established
teams in the area. Although
they could not get into a
college league this season,
they are hopeful of forming a
varsity team in the fall of next
year.
The team is coached by a
Capitol Campus student
Rhonda Wolf and plays its
games at a Junior High School

No losers on this team
terms of wins and losses, this
group of men are winners all
the way when it comes to
more important areas, such as
class and character.
Ineligibility, injury, and
inconsistency plagued the
Lions throughout the season.
These factors, combined with
an overwhelming number of
road contests early on, made
it impossible for PSU/ Capitol
to get on track. The loss of
Jack Wilson before the York
game in. mid-January was the.
final, fatal blow to the Lion's
hopes for improvement upon
last year's 5-18 slate. With the
6-4 junior out of the line-up,
the Lions were without his 26
in Middletown. This season
was mainly being used for
practice and to gain experi
ence for next year, but the
girls have had some success
against the established teams.
When asked what she
would like to say about the
team, Konie Baer said "We
would like to get sonie sup
port from the students." Al
though there are only three
weeks left on the schedule,
you can still come out and
watch. The games start at 7
p.m. Wednesday nights at
Feaser Junior High School in
Middletown. With some sup
port from fans and more girls
who , like volleyball we may
have varsity womens volley
ball next year in our own gym.
46'1'
points and 13 rebounds per
contest, which was not to be
overcome as the season
moved on.
Prospects for next season
do look encouraging. Head
Coach Dan Phillips and aide
Ray White will welcome back
Wilson, along with returnees
Ron Kuzo, Bob Hassel, and
Bernie Walko. Also figuring
to improve PSU/ Capitol on
the court are theicesults of the
vigorous recruiting effort of
Athletic Director Bud
Smitley. Several top-notch
players are expected to don
the Blue and White next year.
As for the season now

This never-say-die attitude
was firmly in place when the

The Bobcats pulled away
from that point for another
large margin of victory over
PSU/ Capitol, but the Lions
never stopped hustling until
the final buzzer of the season
sounded. And that is how this
year's Lions should be re
membered. Not just by their
victories and defeats, but by
their desire and determina

character. If it really does not
matter whether you win or
lose, just how you played the
game, then this season's PSU/
