C.C. Reader XGI NEWS Well here it is, Hawking like the devil outside with a student attitude to match. Typing this little message I had the comment made that fora Friday it was too dead . . it resembled a monastery. Well. the RGIs can't complain of such lethargy. Early each weekday the Lounge comes alive with smiling faces and over-cooked coffee. After all, WHAT DO YOU WANT? I type the same offer every two weeks. open membership: looking for open and new ideas. I get the same re sponse Look up any Frat member in the next two weeks. We are having a Valentine's Day raf fle with the winner receiving a dinner for two at the Host Inn. The Fraternity will pro vide reservations, a $5O limit for dinner (the Host has a lounge next to the dining room, live music is provided starting at 9 p.m. and there is no cover charge for those in the restaurant), and chauffeur transportation to and from the Host Inn. Clubbin' around Friday Feb. 15 is the win ning day, and reservations are for 7 p.m. You have to supply the better half. Tickets will be $.50 each or 5/ $2. Oh yeah, the chauffeur is also going to be in a tuxedo. If you think the idea of any of the XGIs in a tux is a bit absurd, you know how the volunteer (?) feels. The Fraternity is schedul ed to visit the psychiatric ward of the Lebanon VA Medical Center on Friday Feb. 29. We hope to have a rather sizable crowd, as this is something special. Time for the visit is set from 7:15 to 8:45. We will be leaving a bit early, so anyone who is inter ested, stop by the Lounge so adequate transportation can be provided. With luck, Mike Sheldon and Sam Bookheimer will provide guitar entertain ment. Both are known to be excellent players. We're hop ing that the veterans less fortunate than ourselves will enjoy what small cheer we bring; and if past visits are any indication, the trip will be a good time all the way around. Friday, Feb. 8, 1980 A special thanks to those individuals who have deposit ed books and periodicals in the Lounge for this trip. Our thanks are not nearly enough. Also, the Vets who are not associated directly with the Fraternity, we would like your support on this one. Our next meeting is Feb. 19. If possible, mark your calendar and attend. Congratulations to Skip Bierschmidt, the newest member of our brotherhood. Congratulations also to our Volleyball team. One victory on Wednesday Jan. 30. It was by forfeit, but the team did get to practice. Looks good this year. So until next time people, remember that the longer you stay in your corner, the longer it takes to change anything. Most resid ents have already receiv ed yellow housing forms requesting the donation of that extra space. Ask the people who hosted last year; guaranteed that this little bit of effort is more than worth any inconvenience. We could still do with some staff workers. Typing, mimeograph, and Model United Nation to be at Capitol message carriers are as important as any Commit tee position. All help is greatly appreciated, and one usually manages to get some fun from the effort. This year's confer ence will have three guest speakers. On Thurs day Feb. 21, Mr. George Meek will address the opening ceremonies in the auditorium. Mr. Meek is the Chief of Exter nal Relations for the Organization of American States. His lecture will present a general over view of the function ings of the OAS. Space will be tight, but anyone interested is welcome to attend. BSU is sponsoring a Valentine's Day Dance on Feb. 12 at the student Center from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Cost is $1.50 per person or $2.00 per couple. Refresh ments will be provided. The following positions are available to those interested: News editor, typesetter, advertising salesperson, pro duction staff, club reporter, cultural events reporter; Campus Police reporter, Faculty Council reporter, commuter reporter, graduate student reporter, common wealth campuses reporter and several general reporters. up lILA tam HiPPIN4 The next meeting of Hillel will be held Monday, Feb. 11, at 1:30 p.m. in Room W 7202. We are planning a Purim party, to be held March 2nd. A short ceremony mark ed the presentation of a tree by Hillel to the University last Friday, Feb. 1, in celebration of Tu B' Shvat. The tree was planted on the West corner of the building, across from the bicycle parking area. /13 Friday, Feb. 22 brings two additional guests. At 1:30 in the auditorium, Professor Ruth Matson will discuss contemporary Middle Eastern develop ments. Professor Matson is from the Center for Mideast Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. All things considered, this area should be of special interest to many people. In room 216 at 1:30, Mr. Ron Drago will be discussing the ever-expand ing problem of interna tional refugees. Mr. Drago is the Assistant Director of Refugee Ser vices for the Tressler Lutheran service. • li t
