page 12 State goin' bowlin' As the Nittany Lions of Penn State head into the last four games of their 1979 schedule, they carry with them a four-game winning streak, along with hopes for a major post-season bowl berth. Since losing two of its first three, State has bounced back with wins over Maryland, Army, Syracuse, and West Virginia. These teams are not what one would call national powerhouses, but there is reason to believe that the Lions can continue their win ning ways, even though the combined record of PSU's last four foes is an excellent 21-8 slate. The reasons why State should finish the year at 9-2 are the same ones that have Soccer wap-up soccer The PSU-Capitol Campus soccer team will end its sea son this Saturday when they take on N.E. Christian Jr. College in Villonova, Pa. It is hoped that the Caps can im prove a little on their disap pointing 1-8 record to close out the year. In recent action, Capitol dropped its matches to Phila. College of Pharmacy and Science and PSU-Mont Alto Campus by the scores of 4-2 and 5-2, respectively. They were also defeated by Phila. Bible College and lost 5-1 to Spring Garden College in a game which officials had to halt because of roughness• on the part of Spring Garden players. During the win streak, the PSU running game has looked nothing short of awesome. Fullback Matt Suhey might even be considered a late-sea son darkhorse candidate for the Heisman Trophy, award ed to college football's player of-the-year. He has gained over 500 yards rushing in his last four games alone, and is on his way to breaking several career marks at Penn State. And, Moore has accomplished this while added pressure was on him with the leg injury to freshman speedster Curt Warner. The Lion defense has been as solid as last year's excep tional defenders lately, and with the improvement of the State secondary in recent weeks, PSU's opponents will find it difficult to get to the Lions end zone. After the Miami game this weekend, the Lions will travel to North Carolina for theii final road contest of the year against the N.C. Wolfpack. N.C. State is currently 6-2, and the Wolfpack always gives PSU a rough time; this year should be no exception. On November 17th, the Temple Owls enter Beaver Stadium, looking for the na tional recognition that has eluded them so far this sea son. Pitt is also 6-1 right now, and the heated rivalry between these two Eastern football powers is set for Beaver Stadium on December Ist. The date of the game was moved back one week to ac comidate national television. Pitt's only loss was to the Tar Heels of North Carolina early in the season.
