Pennsylvania State University at Capitol Campus Vol. 8 No. 12 Pro Faculty, student and staff were invited to attend a con vocatin for Provost Dean Dr. Theodore L. Gross on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. in the multi-purpose building. The welcoming was be gun by University Park Pro vost Eddy. He started off with a humorous not that seemed to permeate the entire talk. Itwas obvious that this was a happy occasion. Good natured joking continued as Eddy stated that “come hell or high water Dr. Robert Graham was going to find the qualified person for the job.” He want on to tell that Dr. Gross was the best man for the job and that one of his most engaging qualities is the ability to laugh at himself. “Provosts are usually pompous 'but not Gross." Craig Mocker, president of SGA, welcomed gross on behalf of the student body. He infor med Gross that the develop ment of an academic and social atmosphere were equally im portant. The faculty welcoming was covered by Dr. Ynonne Milspaw. She told the audience that they (the faculty) like Gross - so far. Dr. John W. Oswald, presi dent of PSU was next to give his welcome. He told of an incident that occurred just four days into his president position. While happily riding in a par ade and smiling to the crowd, an elderly woman walked up to him and told him that he Better enjoy it while it lasts.” Thesratmlaito are learning international cooperation. Dr. Oswald described what a diffi cult position DR. Gross has accepted as Provost and Dean. Gross' is now administration head and academic head. After thanking him again for accept ting his postition, Dr. Oswald gave the floor to Gross. Gross began by thanking for the confirmation to his post and promised to do all he can to vindicate it. Although he he has been here less than a month he sees the outline of the future unique rol that CC will play. With the special location of this campus, it can stand ready to develop students for govern ment positions, to prepare stu dents for medical education, and to provide businesses with their future employees. The special strength of this student body to that they.are generally oder and more certain of their goals which will elfttble him to work closely with them to im prove this campus. “Much of what we do should reflect our special location." Meeting with local civic and educational lead ers is the beginning oa a ren aissance for this campus and this area. Professional educa must be viewed as a total experience - not just specific specializations.” Welcome to the campus Dr. Gross.
