Pro
Faculty, student and staff
were invited to attend a con
vocatin for Provost Dean Dr.
Theodore L. Gross on Tuesday,
Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. in the
multi-purpose building.
The welcoming was be
gun by University Park Pro
vost Eddy. He started off with
a humorous not that seemed to
permeate the entire talk. Itwas
obvious that this was a happy
occasion. Good natured joking
continued as Eddy stated that
“come hell or high water Dr.
Robert Graham was going to
find the qualified person for the
job.” He want on to tell that Dr.
Gross was the best man for the
job and that one of his most
engaging qualities is the ability
to laugh at himself. “Provosts
are usually pompous 'but not
Gross."
Craig Mocker, president of
SGA, welcomed gross on behalf
of the student body. He infor
med Gross that the develop
ment of an academic and social
atmosphere were equally im
portant. The faculty welcoming
was covered by Dr. Ynonne
Milspaw. She told the audience
that they (the faculty) like
Gross - so far.
Dr. John W. Oswald, presi
dent of PSU was next to give
his welcome. He told of an
incident that occurred just four
days into his president position.
While happily riding in a par
ade and smiling to the crowd,
an elderly woman walked up to
him and told him that he Better
enjoy it while it lasts.”

On a more serious note. Dr.
Oswald described what a diffi
cult position DR. Gross has
accepted as Provost and Dean.
Gross' is now administration
head and academic head. After
thanking him again for accept
ting his postition, Dr. Oswald
gave the floor to Gross.
Gross began by thanking for
the confirmation to his post and
promised to do all he can to
vindicate it. Although he he has
been here less than a month he
sees the outline of the future
unique rol that CC will play.
With the special location of this
campus, it can stand ready to
develop students for govern
ment positions, to prepare stu
dents for medical education,
and to provide businesses with
their future employees. The
special strength of this student
body to that they.are generally
oder and more certain of their
goals which will elfttble him to
work closely with them to im
prove this campus. “Much of
what we do should reflect our
special location." Meeting with
local civic and educational lead
ers is the beginning oa a ren
aissance for this campus and
this area. Professional educa
must be viewed as a total
experience - not just specific
specializations.”
Welcome to the campus Dr.
Gross. Your sense of humor
combined with your excellent
background and future plans
for the renaissance are most
welcomed here.
“AN the news that fits we print” ’
Dr. John w. Oswald, President of PSU, and Dr. Theodore L. Gross, Capitol's new Provost and
