Taking A Closer Look By Mike A dream gone. A long sought prize lost, with its grasp in reach. A magical, electric season ended. In whatever you would care to describe it, the Penn State Nittany Lions were turned away in its bid to capture a national championship. When a team is a winner, and a game has been won, them doesn't seem to be enough words to write about it. In defeat, however, the words seem scarce and hard to find. But this is not a hard article to write. As a Penn State stu dent Icertainly see no mason to be down. Our football team finally got the recognition they deserved. Coach Patemo's li ons had shown what it takes to get into a national champion ship game. A loss is always hard to take, whether it be a football game or somewhere along the mad in life. But from a loss, the character of a team or of an individual is all the mom impor tant. It is a growing and learning Caps Struggle On After an opening season win over Lancaster Bible College, the C.C. roundballeis have run into some rough scheduling which has left them with a 3 - 5 mark in season play. Part of that tough schedule includes the 3 NCAA Divsion II teams of Roan oke, West Virginia Wesleyan, and Ohio Wesleyan. These three teams took the better of the Caps by a combined 292 - 135 margin. The team came back strong, however by defeating Alvernia College 86 - 58 and Lancaster Bible again by a 95 - 73 score. According to Coach Jim Ba ker, part of the Caps weakness has been their lack of height. Kris Fish is the Caps leading scorer averaging 15 points a game, and his 6'5" frame also WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: A final attempt at a women's basketball program is will take place on Friday, Jan.l2. Has winning at all costs taken over the idea of good sportsmanship? Even with the loss, I think that Penn State students everywhere felt proud of their team. The rugged schedule contin ues on bhday, January 15, when the team travels westward to take on California State Col lege. In a season which has been mostly mad games, the Caps finally come home for a Saturday contest against Phila delphia Pharmacy at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. There has been little support at the away games and this home appearance of fers students the chance to see their team in action for the first time since last month. Yes, come Super Sunday they'll be wearing blue and silver or black and gold, but its the real Cowboy and Steeler fans who are enjoying it the most. This is the game of games, and in it we have the two elites of the NFL But this game has a lot more interest to it than your regular run of the mill Super Bowl game. The offenses and defenses of both teams are to say the least, awesome, but the one big advantage in this game has to go to Dallas. Regardless of what many might say, the big difference in this game has to be the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. A major oversight by Pittsburgh man agement left this Steeler team without a cheerieading squad.
