My reasoning for wanting to
run for Graduate Senator is
two-fold. First and foremost, I
plan to represent the graduate
student while he/she is attend
ing Capitol Campus. One way I
plan to do this is work toward a
revision of the SGA constitu
tion. In its present form, the
constitution leaves many ques
tions concerning full and part
time graduate students.
My second reason for want
ing to run for graduate senator
is that as a resident student at
Capitol, I have observed many
problems that need SGA assis
tance. One of these problems is
the present search for more
diversity in student activities. I
feel that SGA, together with
Student Activities, can reach
favorable solutions. I would like
to be a part of the process to aid
my fellow students.

When I was approached
with the idea of running for a
Junior Senatorial position I felt
that the first thing to do was to
find more information on the
subject and then consciously
weigh the "benefits and costs."
So I questioned my R.A. about
the campus' SGA. She gave me
an idea of what the organiza
tion's responsibilities were,
how often it met, etc. But more
she gave me some insight to the
next step I must take. I learned
that I could grow. I am a
business student and today's
business world cannot escape
government. Belonging to this

knowledge in governmental
procedures. I would also ex
pand my understanding of fi
nances and funding since this is
one of the responsibilities of
SGA. Another important as
pect--the most important--is
people. I'll get to meet many of
my fellow students, learn how
they feel about certain subjects
and be representative of these
people.
The "costs" must also be
considered. Can I afford them?
There would be the responsi
bility to the students and the
time it takes to be involved and
to participate. The effort seems
small compared to the rewards.
I believe that I am being honest
with myself and my fellow
students when I say yes to such
a challenge.
There are several issues of
concern to the Student Body at
Capitol Campus, that must be
resolved in the upcoming
months. Some of these issues
concern our keggars, concerts,
amd the yearbook. These topics
encompass many previous e
vents that have taken place,
and now modifications are
needed to preserve them. The
students of the SGA have
worked to bring them about,
and our representatives are
currently debating an "Activi
ties Planning Board" to coordi
nate social events.
I would like to work as a
member of SGA and with the

help of other clubs and inte

keggars, contain vandalism af
ter them, and work towards
reinstating our concert in the
spring. These are goals which I
feel are of the most important.
Other issues that I am interest
ed in involve the encroachment
on the Student Center by the
Continuing Education Depart
ment, mismanagement of stu
dent funds, extending the hours
for the use of the Multi-Purpose
Building, and the cancellation of
the tennis team.
Consistent awareness,
through proper publication, is
the main determinant concern
ing student involvement. Stu
dents should be aware of the
influence we have here at Capi
tol. With increased involve
ment, proper organization and
publication, we will produce a
moving concern!
Stacy Brubaker
These issues I have stated
above are basic goals that can
be achieved through compre
hensive planning and proper
direction. With your help and
the desire of fellow students,
these, and other goals are sure
ly attainable.
As your student senator, I
will perform the duties of the
office to the best of my ability.
These duties will not only in
clude my voice and vote as a
representation of the feelings of
the student body, but also as a
communication link in return
from the University to the
student body. I will maintain
nical versus non-technical mat
erials. The skills taught in this
program have been proven to
be especially helpful to the
"returning" student who is
seeking to sharpen skills after
some time away from formal
coursework.
Other programs upcoming
in the '7B-19 Directions Series
will include Assertion Training,
Career Development, and Hu
man Growth and Development.
Dates for these workshops will
be announced soon.

these duties with as honest and
open opinion as possible, stay
ing always available to com
ments and suggestions brought
to me. Of particular concern, I
will investigate and try to find
workable substitutes to the
spring concert. This event
seems to be the single most
important social event of the
spring term. It will be a great
loss to the student body if this
event remains totally cancelled.
Being new to this campus, I
have noticed that other prob
lems do exist on this campus
that need action. These include
the parking problems in Meade
Heights, coffee machines in
other areas of the campus then
Vendorville, and the purchas
ing policy of the bookstore.
There also seems to be a large
block of students that would
like to have breakfast served on
the weekends in the dining hall.
When elected, I will look into
these problems and any other
problems brought to my atten
tion. By being an active sena
tor. I will try to solve these
problems for the benefit of the
student body.

I, as a nominee for the social

other current issues need to be

I, Michael Cocciardi, am
running for senate simply be
cause I feel that my opinions
are as good as anyone else
running. I feel that no other
qualifications, other than the
willingness to give and contri

ideas are the best qualifications
available. And my viewpoints
and ideas are as different as
anybodys.
