Page 4 The Lion's Den Penn State has some thing that's orange and white and purrs in the night. Maybe you've seen it cruising around campus or maybe you were fortunate enough to make it to the "Hershey World of Wheels" at the Hershey Convention Center on January 6-8 where "The'Lion's Den" custom van was on display with about 100 other custom vans, cars, and bikes. This "pride of Penn State" creation is owned by John Hancharik, an engi neering student at Capitol Campus. John designed the camper style interior which features orange and white formica cabinets, sink, ice box, a stove mounted on the van door to look inside of out and a heart shaped table that flips into a bed. The exterior is orange and white with murals of lions adorning the sides, hood, and spare tire cover, along with heart shaped windows, fender flares, and 50 series T/A radials on 8 1 / 2 " wire mag wheels. Much of the $12,500 invested is due to all of the electronic goodies inside, with 8 gauges to monitor all of the systems within the van, Pioneer cassette and an AM! FM 8 track stereo with 6 speakers and Mindblower amplifier, CB radio tele phone, 12 volt TV, and 2 alarm systems. His van, along with its matching Pinto cruisin' wagon, have won 21 trophies thus far, including a 2nd place in his class at the Hershey show. After 2 years on the show circuit now, John plans to sell his '76 Ford van and Pinto wagon and begin building a new "living room on wheels" based on a '7B Ford Quadravan (4-wheel drive van). We wish him luck! Wanted The C.C. Reader is running smoothly, but more mass media students would be greatly appreciated. Any interested people are wel come. Ideas are ticking.
