()CIOBER 20, 1977 Ratings - ****excellent, ***above average, **take-it-or leave-it, *don't bother Love You Live*•* - The Rolling Stones (Rolling Stone Records) Love You Live proves three points I believe hold true to the Rolling Stones. 1. Every fourth-generation punk-rock band around today owes everything they know to the Stones. Jagger and Co. are the original punks, and have been so since the mid-sixties, when they played small clubs much the same as those popular in -New York City today. 2. The Stones still are a club band, proved by side three recorded at Toronto's El Mocambo. 3. Rock 'n' roll does not by necessity require technical perfection, advanced techno logy, or precision in the studio or on the stage. The Stones prove on this set that sloppy execution or form can just as well move a listener. All excitement lies in the excitement lies in the conviction of the performer being matched by the raw energy of the music. Love You Live is a testimony to raw sound, all rough edges left intact. It's only rock 'n' roll, I still can't understand the lyrics, but I like it. Aja**** Records) Steely Dan )abc On first listening, Aja became a candidate for best album of the year. The Becker and Fagen team produces a superb mixture of tight ja, rhythm-rock, and witty, often sardonic lyrics. Assembled behind the duo are a collection of the best studio musicians and jazz Vehicle Code Changes Made As of the first day of July, 1977, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania implemented a new Vehicle Code. With the implementation of this code, there are several significant changes that effect the driver of a pedalcycle and/or motor vehicle on this campus. This statement is prepared by The Department of Safety and Security in an attempt to brief you on these changes and to draw your attention to the more severe penalities stipu lated for the various violations. The most important change effecting all drivers on campus is that all moving violations must now be -cited with a Commonwealth Traffic Citation and is then answerable to the civil courts through the District Justice's Office. Most moving violations, with the exception of artists on record. The perfor mance of this unit is stunning, and perfectly complements Fagen's no-voice vocals. Chicago Xl** - (Columbia Records) So much for original titles, or for that matter, new ideas in cover design. This Chicago album may just as well be any other Chicago album, the only difference being Roman numerals. The material is bland, the lyrics rock-bottom, the whole thing saved by a couple of impressive horn charts and one or two Chicago-trademark top forty hit singles. How long can a group tread water before they sink? Stick To Me**** - Graham Parker and thi Rumour (Mercury Records) Max***h/z - The Rumour (Mercury Records) Stick To Me, Graham Parker's third album, bestows upon him the honored title of British Bruce Springsteen, as both men draw their musical roots from a common creative source: basic mid-sixties rock 'n' roll augmented by black Louisiana brass. Whereas Springsteen draws imagery from restless American middle class culture, moods, and values in his writing, Parker borrows from sixties rock tradition of the British bands, most notably the early Stones. Parker also taps middle-class sensibilities, although simple but vivid lyrics are on equal terms with the songs' arrangements and songs' arrangements and rhythm charts. Parker uses the precise pub-band musicianship of The speeding, are answerable with a $25.00 fine and $lO.OO in court costs. Speeding is answerable with a basic $35.00 fine for up to five miles per hour above the allowed speed limit, plus $lO.OO in court costs. Although important consi deration in the Vehicle Code is the obligation of the driver to the pedestrian. Any Vedestrian entering a designated cross walk or crossing the street at any intersection not controlled by a traffic contol device or police officer, has the right of way, and the vehicle operator must yield to the pedestrian. If you are pulling out of a driveway that crosses a sidewalk, you must come to a full stop and wait for all pedestrians to pass. Although the new vehicle code relieves all drivers of the C.C. READER Rumour to drive home an abundance of lyrical and melodic hooks within the limited three-to-four minute formula characteristic of sixties single-writing. Springsteen is more the street poet and visionary than the persona; Parker most often states exactly what he sees how he sees it, without the worry of symbolism or allegory. Within the context of his writing, Parker takes Sprinsteen's original concept and simplifies it for mass-appeal, while placing the singer's (and the band's) performance on the same level or above dramatic and lyrically acute charac terizations. The Rumour is one of the tightest bands performing today, and their "solo" album Max showcases the energy, excitement, and sense of humor not present much any more. Max consists of a collection of songs the group penned independently from Graham Parker, and except for a more varied program of material and the absence of Parker's distinct vocals, is not much different from their albums with Parker. Both Stick To Me and Max contain vital music long since missing from a rather dismal mainstream: both are albums that will hopefully help to direct the future of the art. New music from: Joan Armatrading, Santana, Garfunkel, Kansas, and Leo Sayer. Albums forthcoming from: Earth, Wind & Fire, Boz Scaggs, Rod Stewart, Chicago Aerosmith, and Greatist Hits from Paul Simon. Next week: The Rock Poets: Newman, Waits, and Joel....new Santana.... responsibility of reporting an accident to the State if the accident has been investigated by a police department, a driver on campus is not relieved of the responsibility of reporting all accidents to the Department of Safety and Security for investigation. This requirement extends to all accidents, not simply those that preclude the movement of your vehicle. Attention is drawn to the fact that all roads on campus, even those not posted as no passing areas, fall within the definition of areas where passing is prohibited. U turns are now permitted where they can be made safely and without interfering with traffic. You may not make a U turn on a curve, a hill or where prohibited by signs.
